Hi because of using uad studer, ampex and now u-he satin I have thought about buying a tape machine, for fun and to hear for myself how it works.
I spoke to chas levin about tape machines and he has referred me to 6 excellent articles that he wrote for a magazine.

Thing is, the next bigger update (rather 1.2, not the imminent 1.1.1) will come with even one more knob: an azimuth control. I had to roll up my sleeves and squeeze it into the service panel by force, fighting with every pixel.
BTW, azimuth is wicked. In delay mode, it twists the angles of the 4 heads in a counter-rotating fashion. Big washy sound field, especially below 7.5ips.

btw. do you know of any automation problems with satin and live 9.0.6?
I cant automate satin, it acts like im constantly tweaking satin when i play back (and doesnt allow my automation) thats mac osx using AU 64 bit.
