Thesys looks more like it's for fancy pants MIDI automation. In typical Sugar Bytes fashion the gui is bafflingly complex. I don't see how it can do drum patterns any easier or faster than the Reaper sequencer in question.

Word, +1.

This new Reaper sequencer does the job and is exceedingly simple. No need for frills and shit on the GUI IMHO, not this time.

Seems pretty cool to me. I use FLStudio for all of that kinda stuff so I wouldn't have any real need for it.

Well Reaper users care less for looks but more for functionality and usability, that's my impression. That's fair enough of course.

Thesys is not suitable for drums at all because it is "monophonic", so to speak.

But it is brilliant for other tasks.

mmm ugly as hell but look functional. I like the reaper concept but I cant get over the GUI - I must be shallow but I like a nice vibe. Ill stick to Nerve in Logic-Nerve sequencer is the best Ive used-so quick and creative.

There are a few Reaper elements that can't be skinned at all, but different themes can make it look completely different. I've been using RADO VOX for most of my tenure with Reaper, makes it feel like a completely different DAW.
