That's why everyone is using the same software.

Ultra facepalm.

That may have been a true statement, 5 years ago.

Zebra2 and Zebra HZ are top-notch, "studio quality" synths. If you are interested in creating your own sounds, Zebra will provide you with the best designed interface available anywhere for understanding what you are doing. And it sounds great.

It's rock solid, has incredible tech support, and a user base who are so enthusiastic about the synth that they are a real community.

And did I say it sounds great.

Everything that can make a sound, is in the hands of a good musician a 'studio grade' instrument :D

Having said that, most freeware stuff today runs rings around anything we used in 'real studios' a few decades ago ;)

I know, I was there.

Most of todays output consists of a play button and a two step, so i understand most of your young idealistic views. fact is … none of you have offered any alternatives.

So was I...which is why I can actually appreciate the quality and choices we have in modern software. But then I know how to use them so maybe that's the difference

I'm more than likely older than you......

Alternatives to what ? The common Virus ?

Alchemy
Dune
Sylenth 1
Z3ta+2
Zebra 2

etc etc.....All high quality instruments....in the right hands.

 It was exactly my reaction!

Strange! I thought people are complaining from too many choices!

I absolutely feel the opposite of the OP, There are too many high quality synths out there! I feel dizzy when I want to buy one!

@OP
It is also a matter of how much you know your synths! The more I learn about my synths, the less of them I need! Buy Zebra and learn it well, then you would reach the same conclusion.

Dodgy (and cliched) thesis, stupid generalisations, poor attempt at argument from authority.

Average troll, could do better.

Well, I'm in my mid forties, but that doesn't matter, the fact that you spend your time flaming on software internet forums says a tremendous amount about your age.

An alternative to zebra dunderheads. As mentioned several times.

Doesn't matter, I'm playing with the geo oscillators and I think I've found what I'm after. Enjoy your flame wars.

Same here again... I seem to remember Tek and I are around the same age (just call us 'grey matter'). We also go back a while together... KVR-wise, Orion-wise.... and I guess these days even Reaper-wise :hihi:

You've set limits in making it about Zebra and Virus it seems. But haven't offered the finer details of what you like or are looking for in sound.
And a few of us have offered what we can that generally fit in those limits.
There is always a matter of price range/budget to consider, which you didn't give us, but that we can assume there must be one else like many of us, you would just buy them all and figure out what you like on your own.

My choices in software only along those generalizations: Zebra2HZ; Alchemy; Z2ta+2; [Synthmaster];Rapture; Absynth; Reaktor. (And I'd even throw in WusikStation and Rhino, although Rhino's GUI is unbelievably in need of major update work).
But in that list, you can add Virus WT to almost all of them and get more of what you may be saying you're looking for.

Maybe you should just start free? T2-Firebird; HGF-STS-xx?

But as to your OP, between the two, I doubt if you'll be unhappy with Zebra2HZ (And yes, I highly recommend the HZ).

Add/edit: Added Synthmaster, since it does multiple forms of synthesis, has the ability to add soundfonfonts and wave tables and you can pick up the basic synth for around $70.00.

I'm still getting these email notices.

I was after a new peace of soft ware to update my sound (modern algorithms). I have $300 (hopefully less) to throw at it. When I examined my options, I had the following considerations. It had to have the SOUND. It had to have the OPTIONS and CAPABILITIES that software should offer (not just another va)., it also had to have the right company backing it up for continued SUPPORT (upgrades and such). It came down to zebra, which I have been considering splurging on for some years now. But zebra is now in everyone's circle and all everyone seems to use. It's all you hear about since it was used in a few film scores. A lot like the virus once ( and to some extent still is). I was wondering what alternatives there were ... If any. All of this is IN THIS THREAD. I did get a couple of suggestions. Camel ... I luv the sound, but the thought of seeking out, buying, and storing all those sound files is a turn off. I also love reaktor, but the price is more than I wanted to spend. I really like the idea of loom, but I can't even download a demo to see if it works, or what it sounds like. I like Tera a lot, but the sound is kind of muddy to me (presets). I am turned on by spire. But as stated, I already own and use zeta2 for a while. So .. I'm a little disappointed in my options, but zebra seems like a natural choice. End of thread. Thanx to those that actually read the thread.
