If you want something exclusive check the Vienna Symphonic Library. Their super package costs more than 10K euro and people (professional composers) buy it because everything else is crap and barely useable. Sometimes it is not a choice between buying or not buying, but between a working draft of a full orchestral soundtrack in 3 days and losing a job.fluffy_little_something wrote:Wow, I would not call that exclusive, but ridiculouspdxindy wrote:You can buy a Pro-Tools De-Esser Plug-in for $2000... ...And how many people buy that stuff?
Does U-he seriously not have any sales/specials?

Eh, some kids just like getting trapped in a scam.
Next thing some IMBECILE is going to wonder if U-he is going to offer "Cloud-Based" products.
And iOS apps… like "iDiva".

I didn't realize I was going to spark such an intense debate. I have to be more careful when asking these kinds of questions.
I personally like the idea of loyalty discounts, I know some will disagree with me on it.
But for me I would actually get a much higher incentive to buy if the company I purchased from said to me, "Hey! We are glad you are a loyal customer, so here is a discount on our future product!"
I can actually give a perfect example of this: When Sigmund by D16 was first released I got an e-mail saying "Here is a 20% off coupon for our newly released Sigmund plugin"
When I saw that I instant bought it. Obviously it won't apply to everyone, but it does increase the chances of someone buying a product.

Crazy. Yet, even they have a promotion

And you know what, 95% of the people using such expensive stuff will never be anything but mediocre wannabe composers
Just like most people using Diva etc. will never be anything but mediocre, at best, and ultimately remain unknown. Sooner or later they just stop making music, and sometimes even end up selling all their stuff on KVR...

What U-he says is, "Hey! We are glad you are a loyal customer, so here is an update to Diva that adds some valuable new modules and which we could charge for but are giving to you for free."HydrogenHuman wrote:

This way you get something even if you don't buy a new product (already better than what you are asking for). But of course U-he could charge $25 for the Diva update and then give existing customers a $25 discount on their next product. The current way actually values the existing customers more because it gives something without strings attached.

Might not be worth worrying about too muchHydrogenHuman wrote:I didn't realize I was going to spark such an intense debate. I have to be more careful when asking these kinds of questions.
Still marketing is an essential thing, just like fixing bugs and staying ahead of (often entropic, un-useful ...) motion in plug-in standards. IMHO every developer is going to have different ways of balancing everything, I figure users ultimately benefit most when developers are comfortable with that end of things and are able to focus on the stuff we're really passionate about.

I think Uhe makes pretty wonderful prices for the quality u get.HydrogenHuman wrote:I could have sworn I saw Zebra 2 go on sale at one point (It went from $199 to $99 I believe), may have even been last year.
Now I read that there are never any sales or specials, which is disappointing since I'm all about buying plugins when they are on sale.
In fact, didn't Satin initially have a discount when it was first released? Correct me if I'm wrong.
So we can say that Uhe is always on sale.

I like the way U-He does marketing now. I am confident, if that changes, I will also like the way it is done then. I trust them to do things in the best way possible.

Well that 95% at least strive to make it happen and pursue tools which would ease their efforts, instead of sitting waiting for it to happen.fluffy_little_something wrote:

There wouldn't be a Michelangelo as we know him, if not for Cardinals, Cathedrals and so on commissioning his work and these were the richest bodies in those times, If he wouldn't have been paid by those bodies, I bet he would have end up as a "mediocre wannabe" drunkard sitting in some pub.
You wanna art, you or someone else have to pay for it , free art is usually mediocre made by "mediocre wannabes", I repeat word "usually", not always. Buying things in which you believe can enhance your productivity majorly and you may end up producing fine art for free, your reward will be getting a fine product from someone whose work is rewarded and recognized. So those 95% are doing what they can regardless the cost to improve their abilities in expressing themselves and seek things which could lead them to success in producing "art" or whatever..."Mainroom" house, probably room at the back of the house wasn't suitable hahaha or "Melodic" dubstep, or "uplifting" jeez....
Everyone wants to be recognized and rewarded and those who don't won't be Michelangelos, early on during training even animals don't do tricks without reward and for a piece of cake they will do whatever art you want them to do haha

Sorry, I can't watch long videos because of my Internet access...
Well, I don't really share your views there, I just hate all mediocre things... Instead of being a mediocre musician I would rather be a good gardener or baker
At least I am honest and objective enough to realize that I will never be anything but mediocre in terms of making music, thus I use cheap stuff as I know more expensive stuff would not make my music any better.
Never mind, it's off-topic anyway

That's one way of seeing it. Well, there are plenty of really good musicians here on KVR, along with yer average "prohduhcer" types, but your goals or your strengths are only one consideration. What about just, er, fun? Even if you might never make a single piece of arresting music with a synth like Zebra, you can still have tons of fun with it. And although I wouldn't generalize this, but I'd wager there's more fun to be had with Zebra than, say, Charlatan, fine little synth it may be. How much money would you pay for how much fun? I can think of worse pursuits than tinkering around with a synth for a couple of hours. Better than spending it on beer.fluffy_little_something wrote:Sorry, I can't watch long videos because of my Internet access...

I LOVE mediocre things, by the way. Life would be pretty boring if everyone were equally great (or equally awful).

Indeed, Charlatan is little fun, but there is a lot between Charlatan and Zebra. I know Zebra would be way too good for me. Money is no problem in my case, but still, I would feel that I wasted money if I bought an expensive plugin like that. Thus I prefer to donate 100 bucks to people who really need it, while I have fun with my cheaper stuff
I am a rather political person, and while it is interesting, the whole music industry is a bit absurd because of its luxury and vanity. People are starving to death as we speak, and we are talking about 0df filters and trading virtual stuff that doesn't even exist, it is absurd when you think about it

"Does U-he seriously not have any sales/specials?"
It only matters that U-he have kick-ass stuff for making music,
and there's a continuous discount - the dinosaur crossgrade - it's not enough?
