I've heard some Pakistani pop and rock music (and I heard about "Lollywood"), DJ mixes and Banghra-like music from East-Pakistan but industrial and gothic -- never in my life...

(No, I won't ask you if Talibans listen to Death Metal...

)

But I'm a BIG fan of Indian, Arabian and Persian music!

There are niche scenes in Pakistan but it is a small percentage of the urabn population. Metal and Rock are actually quite popular. House and Trance is also popular. Infact, a lot of my metalhead freinds are now house DJ's.

As for me, I have been releasing horrible music under the monicker of Burzukh since 2002.

Yes, the tabla box are loops from the unit the others are multisampled instruments, no phrases. check the description on the product pages and the manuals (pdf) for details.

I just heard the demos and read the descriptions. Both the santoors sound ace. Any chances of your team doing a sarangi set ?

If we get the opportunity to make it we will, it's on our list

It's difficult to make it authentic as a playable instrument from a keyboard with all the slides etc. but it's not impossible.

The restriction wasn't cheap/free, so I'm not sure how many, if any, of the suggestions are affordable. I don't think there was a Sarangi in there sorry.

Interesting.

The thing is, Im willing to pay upto around $ 60 - 70 for a sarangi set of tuned samples. Not interested in an expnsive massive kontakt based libarry of ethnic instruments as i do not need it nor can afford (at least for now).

I bought the bollywood gold pack of sarangi but it turned out to be loops only.

Still , im chopping it up and building a instrument in tx16wx outta it

Yeah tell me about it. I have trying to model it using samples and synthesis for a while now. Hard work to put it mildly.

I like your site and general philosophy. Just might buy the Santoor. Just to be sure the download will include wav files right ? So I can build it up in sampler of my choice (for example tx16wx or alchemy). Coz i dont use nor plan to use Kontakt.

Yes the Santoor includes wav files. Almost all our libraries does there are some monolith Kontakt libraries, Tranzitone & Maestrovox.

Okay, this is not exactly Indian classical, but definitely Indian - here's a sample-set of a bulbul tarang (aka. Indian banjo), from www.sampleism.com. Its for Kontakt, and it includes a custom script which reprodoces the monophonic playing mode with drone-notes of the original instrument (although a fully polyphonic mode is available too):

Quick update : I have bought the bollywood gold sarangi loops. Now im chopping them up to make an instrument in tx16wx. The set is good for loop based electronica maybe but not so good for making your own fusion rock songs. But it was the ONLY dedicated sarangi sample set on the entire internet.

I was totally buying the Total India set but they refused to let it be available for download. Pretty stupid : its 2013. If one someone who has Total India would want to share/upload the sarangi one shots only with me please pm me. i'll trade you for something of the same size.

I just bought Sitar Nation (with Shreddage !)...instant download....but i have to check it out.

I've just looked at the Garritan World Orchestra instruments, and sarangi is among the Indian instruments on the list - http://www.garritan.com/products/world-instruments/.
