A little delay (and sometimes a tiny bit of reverb) made several of the arps sparkle!

Of course, as you said, that does go against the purist retro ideology. But screw that, if it sounds good then it is good. :D

reverb? PSP Springbox on some more percussive stuff

retro, purist?
hmm, I thought about making a "modern" set in which I break any "rule" but still keep that crisp and crunchy chip sound. If there would be interest, I'll consider as a near future project, we'll see.

Something like Winter maybe? , but with all the chip aggression included + anything "next level" ;)

Combining chip music techniques with modern synthesis is a fascinating area, both in terms of adding effects to otherwise "realistically limited" patches, and (my favourite) simply fusing the two "canons" of analog and chip synthesis together in unique ways. Pitch jumps, discontinuous and squarewave-based modulations, sawtooth LFO's to PWM-type effects (a Hubbard classic, that one, and many synthesists would balk at applying a ramp to PWM because of the jump discontinuity), gritty wavesequencing, making moog modulars perform chip tricks... A lot of analog synthesists shy away from jumpy modulations because they want everything to be slinky and analog. I say they're missing out :)

U-he synths are particularly good for this kind of synth design because they're able to run the gamut of analog to digital in a modular or semi-modular way. It's that modular nature that enables this kind of "frankenstien" way of creating.

Well, that's that then, I'm strongly considering to start work on the modern chiptune bank later this week.
The cool thing is that (as I see it) anyone trying to fuse the chip with analog "canons" will generate new, interesting and original results.

Anyway...

Just finished a new demo for the LEVEL 3-E set. :)

^Thanks, yeah... I know! :D
I guess this stuff is really hardwired with good times with video games.

This is a really great soundset! Lots of nostalgic fun!
I'm playing with some of the sounds at the moment and have a lot of fun with them :)

Really great stuff!

Here is a little cheesy jam I put together really quickly using only sounds from this soundset:

 haha
Many thanks Dennis for the fun tune, it was a pleasure listening.
"little" jam? .. if that was little, my demos are like.. a few pixels wide :hihi:

Anyway, thanks a lot (for the feedback and compliments also)! :)

3eeeeeeeeeeeeee,
The latest audio demo is cheese-tastic. It is fun, I like it. Bring on the video games circa early 80's.

Hey thanks, glad you like it! :) Yeah, the 1st part of it was initially titled "NES Jam1" , wanted to get as close to a NES VGM soundtrack..

I play NES and Atari2600 games on emulators these days from time to time... (well now more often than ever :hihi:) I can't believe how great some NES games' music+sfx are!

Now us Zebra users know where to go for videogame sounds, good stuff. :)

Thanks! :)
People who enjoy playing with Zebra should try pasting the chip wavetable into their template and experiment with oscfx and osc modes, really cool new timbres to play with! :tu:

I just got to the -perc- section. Check out 'Kap' for the-mostest-bit-crushed snare/tom/rim shot ever ha-ha. :)

Yeah, that one inherited some more Atari roughness. ;)

XY2 - hooked on envelopes, so yeah the sound can emulate different perc stuff like the ones you've mentioned, depending on settings and key played.
