No matter how long you've been walking down the wrong road, the best move is always to turn around… :)

:hihi:

99% of the people I know who love 4-to-the-floor dance music also love other types of music (both electronic and acoustic).

So it's not mutually exclusive, and I don't see the point in creating a division between those who do and those who don't.

Peace,
Andy.

The OP asked for opinions; I gave mine. As for "right/wrong", please note the smileys...

Not sure if this is in response to me (since I brought of Mumford and Sons, and Phillip Phillips.)
If it is; I'm not saying they can't co-mingle with each other. Hell I'm certain there are rock songs before the age of disco and techno that used 4-4.
And sometimes it works well! A happy unity of the two.
But sometimes, it doesn't.
My point is that sometimes I think people need to explore more rhythm options before settling for 4-4, as sometimes there are more interesting rhythms that can compliment the song.

as someone mentioned, and the point I was trying to get across, it just depends on the song.

There is no reason to completely reject 4-4, but at the same time don't embrace it as the only option.

@ntom - it wasn't in response to you, just a general comment for people who think there is something wrong with 4-to-the-floor music (which is usually directed at dance music because it's seen as "dumb").

Peace,
Andy.

Personally, I don't find anything 'wrong' with FOTF (my joke notwithstanding). I don't think there is such a thing as 'wrong' music.

My problem with FOTF is visceral, not mental. To me, it doesn't breathe (this is made worse by the overuse of compression, but that's another story). In African music, the same rhythm can last 10-15 minutes and if it's well played I don't get tired of it. FOTF gets on my nerves right away; I guess because it is so even and unvarying.

It's ok chap or chapess. Just a general comment. Who is that transcendant being who has the last say? One man's poop is another mans treasure and all that.

Have fun

The earliest one I can think of is "Windy" by The Association, though I'm sure there are lots of others.
