I love it and embrace it to fullness.

Reject. The question is conform to a hive mind vs remembering one is free to obtain or maintain a real interest in rhythm. It's the sound of absolute mindless conformity. I thought you were such a hippie rebel Andy? Guess not! Why is it too hard to reject? Is this what can happen when one's will is too weak? What drugs make people this dulled, exactly? It looks like the logical product of a culture that has forgetten how to dance to music. Do you willingly relinquish all nuance and romance with no fight? HUP TWO THREE FOUR. The perfect soundtrack for letting fascism steamroll everything good.ZenPunkHippy wrote:It's about 20 - 30 years too late to reject, so that only leaves on option!
Embrace it. Revel in it. Love it.
I hear the idiot druggy crap infecting pop music, albeit I'm only exposed to it when I go into the Jack in the Box up the street, which isn't too often. It should be kept to the re-education camps, I mean the clubs and certainly not spread during the day among functional people.

That state that dance/EDM music has reached now is possibly akin to the stage that rock music reached in the mid to late 80s.

Bringing some proper rationality to the discussion. You have shone a light on the error of my ways, and I shall now reform, spending the rest of my days listening only to deep and meaningful songs by Frank Zappa et al.

Perhaps you should get some experience before you decide to criticise from your hight and mighty horse. Everything you said has missed the point entirely ... again
Peace,
Andy.

So if I experience the hammering of four on the floor drugged and drunk in a club long enough my resistance to the conformity that's staring me in the face as a conscious person will evaporate?
this is the best you can do to stand for your opinion? do you think you countered my point there or simply illustrated it brightly?

Who said anything about being "drugged and drunk" in a club?

What was irrational about what I said? Are you not again just tossing words about with no thought as to meaning, because you sensed it would be an insult if only through the magic of '/sarc'? What point did I utterly miss from you? You said you not only embraced it, since '20, or 30 years' of it meant resistance was futile, you revel in it. Yeah, well, while you were doing that I was woodshedding. Fvck me, then, right?ZenPunkHippy wrote:

Peace,
Andy.
I expressed my opinion, it's conformism par excellence, it's a mass mind and it looks like people that can't find rhythm with their actual asses so you have to have all four of four quarters hammered to you as hard as possible.

Your post appears to make many assumptions about me, and you're baiting me by dragging in some stuff from HPC.
FWIW, I love and listen to all forms of music, from Mozart to hardcore drum n bass. Four to the floor dance music is just one side of music that I listen to some of the time.
Peace,
Andy.

Evidently I did, from observation. How do you stand it? I get that through the volume and total monotony, one would tend to become insensate without chemical assistance... but are you actually going to try and argue this isn't a definite feature that goes with the behavior?ZenPunkHippy wrote:Who said anything about being "drugged and drunk" in a club?

What did I drag in? I can't say 'fascism' here without you dragging *that* in? That's really what I have thought for some time about this, you only fit the profile. Trust me, what I think is not driven by what you do so much.ZenPunkHippy wrote:Your post appears to make many assumptions about me, and you're baiting me by dragging in some stuff from HPC.

I'm addressing four on the floor and you standing for it. And quit saying peace when you're doing this shit, it's tawdry.

I'm more interested in the boundary between a predictable groove and chaos. In a breakbeat context switching to 4OTF is a great way to build up tension. Sometimes it's fun to even switch between a bar of 4OTF and a bar of breakbeat patterning. This was quite popular in the Jungle days when the emphasis on the ONE was really heavy.

Right, I'm not suggesting that by embracing this simple kick rhythm, I would reject any other beat figure. Not at all.
In my own work - I've been going further & further away from 4OTF with syncopation, jazzy, offbeat, prog. I'm feeling that while this has been fun and intellectually interesting, I'm getting further away from the heart & gonads with my drumming.
At the same time; we need to recognize, as hehlord mentions above, the ONLY money is music going forward is in EDM.
It's interesting the passion that this modest discussion elicits from a few of you. Black isn't better than the color white - nothing is that simple . . .
peace

I embrace it (among many other rhythms). The boom-boom-boom just activates very ancient instincts and makes my body wants to dance. 4 is only one way by which you can group the hits. You can make them in 3, 5, 6, 7 to your liking, though we never hear dance music based on other modes than 4. However this ancient feeling can be totally destroyed depending on the noise on top of the four. If it is Eurodance my body wants to go hang itself instead but if it is strong, innovative, powerful techno or industrial, the repetitive monotony of it does something to my body that otherwise only can be achieved with drugs.

I don't get the question. Why reject something like FTTF? It's a musical ingredient, among thousands of other musical ingredients. Isn't music about expressing yourself? Why would you want to limit yourself? Afraid of turning into David Guetta?
Weird.
Weird.
