its strange to see clips in the mixer when in arrange view for sure.
it totally puzzles me why Ableton think we need to see clips when using arrange view.
there should be an option to hide anything that is not related to the mixer.

Cool, it took nine releases to get to the point what other DAWs have had for a long time

So now Live can do what DAWS can do but no DAW can do what live can do?!ksandvik wrote:Cool, it took nine releases to get to the point what other DAWs have had for a long time.

Well, to be fair to Ableton, Live has a specific mindset of being a DAW that would be played "live" like a dj instrument. This means it's most likely to be running on a laptop. Trust me, I'm happy they finally added this, but I could always understand why they didn't have it from the beginning.ksandvik wrote:Cool, it took nine releases to get to the point what other DAWs have had for a long time.

Not much today compared with other DAWs. The Session view was unique and special to the original idea of 'Live' being a live instrument to create music. As Ableton deviated from this original concept and got bitten by the DAW fever they started to tweak their system to a DAW with things missing and catching up. Decent PDC being a big missing hole today, for example.SLiC wrote:So now Live can do what DAWS can do but no DAW can do what live can do?!ksandvik wrote:Cool, it took nine releases to get to the point what other DAWs have had for a long time.
Meanwhile NI stepped up with Traktor and Maschine a viable and even more interesting DJ/live music system so Abeton had to go back to their roots with Push initiative.
Me thinks Ableton should have stuck to their 'live' concept and not going into the DAW business. Their pricing model is extremely expensive and the little good thing they had, Max/MDP support, for a totally open-ended expansion system is pricing-wise out of reach for most non-commercial producers.

But Max4Live is now part of Live9 Suite, so no extra cost for that anymore.ksandvik wrote:

I assume you know the pricing for the full Suite or the upgrade to Suite. Astronomical with let's say getting Logic X and adding NI's Reaktor. Or even cheaper with Reaper + Reaktor.sl1914 wrote:But Max4Live is now part of Live9 Suite, so no extra cost for that anymore.ksandvik wrote:

Because few could afford expensive DAWs today. We are actually in a good position as DAWs 10+ years ago used to cost close to 1k or 500, now most are around $200-300 for a whole suite. With some exceptions...robojam wrote:But Logic X and Reaktor is NOT Live and M4L...
Why are we comparing apples to oranges here again...?
