Is there, or will there be, a Uniwire Audio Unit and VST for Receptor owners? Most importantly, does/will it work with original receptors (since i cannot upgrade the system)?

Hi there

To answer this completely, its important to understand why we developed UniWire. We developed UniWire primarily to add more MIDI and Audio I/O to our original Receptor model. So to that end, we created our own plugin that acted like a network interface to send MIDI and Audio over Ethernet to Receptor, where it would do the "heavy lifting" and send the audio results of the plugins back to the host for introduction into the mix.

Even though we have done nothing to disable UniWire in any of our platforms or reduce its usefulness, it is unlikely we will create a 64-bit version of UniWire, for a few reasons. One is that it is a huge amount of work supporting all the various DAWs, and when they change or modify their plugin format (as recently happened in ProTools) it means an additional huge amount of work to develop the new interface.

Perhaps just as important, we are now supporting the PreSonus AudioBox 1818 interface, which makes it possible to pass audio both in the analog and in the digital domains between a Receptor and a DAW, without having to have a round-trip latency hit, which makes it much more pleasurable to track with the Receptor. This has really gotten around the whole I/O issue with Receptor, and the fact you can run it at low latencies independent from your computer really increases the usefulness of Receptor in the studio.

And finally, there are big strides happening in the AVB world, which basically would get around the reason for developing UniWire in the first place... to allow multiple streams of MIDI and Audio to be transported two and from the Receptor over Ethernet. So it would be in everyone's interest to support a new technology that is universal like AVB than it would to continue to develop a proprietary technology like UniWire.

I know there are many many very happy customers who continue to use UniWire in the Mixer mode day in and day out, and we would hope that will continue to be the case.

All the best

Bryan

Thanks for the detailed explanation and forthright info, Bryan. That's appreciated. i wish there had been something similar in regard to the system software upgrade for original Receptor models when the 1.x system updates stopped coming.
