So many great sounds here! "Sharp-bell", "Zebra75", "repsun" and "Ztrain" are my favourites! Would you mind describing how they're made? I wish I could program sounds like that!pdxindy wrote: Here are some of my audio demos. The first one is a struck bell. You could never do that in Diva for example and especially not to control the natural beating sound of the 'body' resonance. Then there are a few plucked sounds. Zebra can do a wide range of organic sounds that have a lot of expressive variability. Zebra is great with percussion too.

^ My guess is that they are made with the Comb module as basis... one of pdxindy's favorite modules IIRC.
great patches nonetheless!

How long do you planning to keep those brilliant presets in your private
locker in prison???
Cmon, you can make many people happy and yourself too! Sell them!
It's an order!

like 3ee said, most of those particular examples use the comb module. But they are all very different in the use. Sometimes I use an osc as an exciter for the comb module. Sometimes I add another osc to add some body to the basic comb sound. Sometimes I use the comb module as an accessory to an osc for some string buzz, or for some inharmonic overtones.Stollmeister wrote:

i thought of a negative for Diva: all my other soft synths sound like crap now compared to it.
Thanks, Urs!

You said you're coming from the Matrix 12 and like lots of modulations -- your choice should be Zebra. Diva sounds great (I have both) but I bought Zebra the same day I decided to sell my Xpander, and I haven't looked back. The Dark Zebra is great (I have that too) but both versions are capable of analogish warmth -- especially with a little judicious EQ. Zebra's modulation scheme is nothing short of brilliant, and nothing on the market comes close to it's basic useability for sound creation.
Diva has modulation options, but it's much more limited and it's easy to bump into limitations. The sound is superb, the oscillator choices are fantastic, but if you're seriously into sound design, based on my experience with both, Zebra will be much more satisfying.

So, 12 years later almost to the day (and since Diva is 50% right now), what are the opinions on this? Can Zebra2 and HZ (now united under Zebra Legacy) sound as "analog" as Diva?
I have Zebra2 since many years and always wondered if I miss out on some unreachable "mojo" from Diva but I somehow feel today there are so many great sounding (saturation ect) tools to add after the synth...and then there is always subtle, manual automation of filters or just volume itself.

*Forgive me Urs for my Gearslutz sins
*
Why not get both?
Especially while Diva is on sale and Z2 Legacy has huge preset pack bundled with it.
