Re: new Prop Shop
Drop downs are not working not working in Firefox 24. Work in Chrome and Safari.
(not that I ever use Safari...)
Props, I would like also to see an option in the dropdown for REs "on sale" and a "price Low to High / High to Low"

Re: Reason is a toy was a silly response by me from the post: the Black Knight Re looks like it was "built by kids for kids". Nothing more. Nothing less.
What a surprise to see the responses after that! Reason is an amazing program. I'd be happy if the current version is all I could use for the rest of my life...
I don't know why people take and defend software so seriously.
Do you stick up for for other - more important - life issues with as much passion?
I hope so.
I don't get that one at all.
I can't test it, but if the crossovers are any good, it would be much better than the $100 fxpansion maul!
Look at this:

Remember, this is not VST - you can't sell it away, even when you sell your Reason copy.
So the Propellerhead's forum is down. Post in here if you normally post there.

Don't think so. I think it all falls on the particular RE instead of Reason. Apparently Parsec has a light footprint. The big doozy is that Reason can only utilize one core since it acts as one big interconnected instrument, where other DAWs can assign different channels to their own cores. Or something like that..TheoM wrote:Seriously, i am curious, did they actually finally improve RE performance? that's way cool if so.zeebot wrote:As far as Im aware any sdk tweaks, RE performance stuff has come as minor updates to reason and are free.
I'm guessing any major advances in REs will either come as a free update but more likely to be bundled into and upgrade, say from R7 to R8 which along with other advances of the program you will pay an upgrade price for.

Yeah, what you said.. still a CPU hogTheoM wrote:No, reason is multicore. It just doesn't make full use of *virtual* cores.Lunesis wrote:Don't think so. Rewire is single core only.
It has nothing to do with falling on the particular RE, we've been through this before.
But i really don't want to go there again, i just wanted to know if they had optimized it. Maybe parsec HAS been and that's a test of that. (i mean it IS after all a props product) Who knows. Cheers.

Without real benchmarks, my subjective sense is that 7 is a hair better than 6.5 (maybe %5)... which doesn't really change the situation very much.TheoM wrote:No, reason is multicore. One thing I miss about the PUF is the benchmark thread - I'm wondering if I'll see much/any of a bump if I upgrade from a 2011 MacBook Air to a Lenovo Yoga Pro 2 (i7, quad core).

Well personally I dont get the whole issue with REs.
I have an i7 920 @ 2.67ghz (a good 5 years old) and 12gig of ram and have never had any issues with Reason or REs...maybe I'm just lucky?

It's like the last year or two never happenedTheoM wrote:It just means you don't use enough to be a problem. Maybe you could give a rough indication of what you can get in realtime playback say 128 buffer with your project not glitching? Which RE and instances? That would be a good guide.
Using 4 or 5 Re's is not going to be a problem on any modern machine. But for example there is no modern machine where you could say do a 32 track project, and have an RE EQ, say trident, on every single one of those tracks and have cpu room for *anything* else. Whereas In Logic i could use 256 in a huge project, one of every track in a 256 track orchestral score, for example, and have good headroom left.

Yeah, was just talking about my personal experience and I really do not want to open pandora's REbox again.Grumbleweed wrote: It's like the last year or two never happened.
I can say I have ran 15 instances of Antidote without my system grinding to a halt.
I think comparing RE against another format is flawed because it is a different system..the only thing in common is that they are both 'plugins' that function within a certain architecture.
I can run a shed load of Echo, pulveriser, Audiomatic etc without my pc breaking sweat and these are all rack extensions.
The issue is not with RE, its with the ability of 3rd parties to implement their plugins to run efficiently with its architecture.
Ahem anyway, thats all I'm saying on that matter because the whole saga that happened on the puf is going to be revisited and I dont want this thread to go down that path.

I believe that is not true.zeebot wrote: The issue is not with RE, its with the ability of 3rd parties to implement their plugins to run efficiently with its architecture.
RE technology, in its current state, doesn't allow for certain CPU instructions (yet) that e.g. VST can use and therefore runs less efficient.
I really would like to revisit some RE that were brutal on my old PC, but I can't. Would make Reason as a tool way more interesting again to me. Running Reason Essentials every now and then to compensate my desire for Scream4 and Dr.(Octo)Rex, but that's about it.

I wonder how they get Parsec to use such little CPU but still sounding excellent. There are some REs that wrecks my system but for some reason Parsec seems to be doing a lot more than some of the "simpler" devices but yet its every light on the CPU.

As far as I know, there have been no changes to the SDK nor how RE's utilize the CPU since you were last aboard and left.TheoM wrote:Seriously, i am curious, did they actually finally improve RE performance? that's way cool if so.
Reason actually makes full use of *virtual* cores (read: Hyperthreading) for everything (high-quality stretch and resample, disc i/o, and graphics rendering among other things), with the exception of rendering audio.TheoM wrote:No, reason is multicore.
