The mixer paradigm

Okay, so I dusted off my MG 10/2 analogue mixer today thinking I'd be clever with my POD so that I could record the damned thing clean and fiddle with the precise sound afterwards. I was using my Variax power/DI box's XLR output into my mixer and trying to get my head around how to get a clean signal into my UA-5 (which only has two ins and two outs) and somehow getting the POD-processed sound out of the monitors. I struggled for a while with aux busses, twising the knob this way and the other way for pre-fade and post-fade AUX sends that worked on +4Db and trying not to offend my POD too much with the signal. I messed with panning trying to get the signal in the left input clean and the right input clean (I think it's time to look for a sound card with more ins and outs). In the end, I decided it can't be done reliably. But all the time, I was thinking, if this mixer worked like a rack filter, I could just connect the signal from the guitar to the POD's input and to the UA-5's left input, and the POD output to the UA-5's right input. Or I could take the clean signal past the UA-5 and into the POD, and connect the POD's stereo output to the monitor outputs along with the UA-5's outputs. Or I could something else that would make sense.
Jules - no matter how much they bitch and whine, no matter how much they cry and yell - please, for the love of all that is good and graceful, stay the hell away from the whole mixer paradigm. It's so last century it hurts my head!

P.S.
I may be stupid, but don't let that stop you from agreeing with my point.

Try a "Y" cable from the guitar with one into the pod and one into your soundcard or mixer. Connect the output of the POD to headphones or your guitar amp to monitor the effected sound and record the clean sound.

Hehe, cheers mate. The problem was precisely that I didn't have a Y-cable and I wanted to rack filter my way around it. Also, just to be clear, I did exaggerate a bit in the post above to make a point. Hyperbole they call it. Mmmm... My high school English teacher would be so proud.PT wrote:Try a "Y" cable from the guitar with one into the pod and one into your soundcard or mixer. The 3 features that brought me to Tracktion:edelweiss wrote:Op......

1) Filter framework. **Great visual cue.
2) Absence of "the mixer". **I don't need dual monitors anymore!!! This means it's just as easy to work on the laptop.
3) Easy export of projects. **No more problems collaborating on projects.

I agree with that, it would be OK if it only represented the plug in area in a different fashion. Maybe a user mod Tackywrapper or something.PT wrote:I've said it before; A mixer is OK IF it doesn't change the workings of Tracktion, it's use is not required, and it is just an optional add-on for people who like mixers.
