Downloaded the trial version of Tracktion yesterday but for some reason I'm not able to load and play a VST synth into it :?

Being a total beginner in the field of sequencers and midi I could use some help from the profs here :help:

Thanks guys,
Willem

first ... make sure you turn on the pop-up help (click the 'help' button bottom left)

1 - make sure tracktion knows where your VST folder(s) is (you can set this in the 'plugins' section of the 'settings' tab before clicking 'rescan plugin directories')

2 - re-enter the 'edit' tab and click-and-drag the 'new filter' (tracktion calls plugins 'filters') button at the top-right down onto one of your tracks ... when you release a menu should appear showing all your plugins ... just click the one you want

3 - enable your MIDI input by dragging it to the appropriate track on the left OR create a MIDI clip on that selected track (keyboard shortcut 'G') and enter some notes into the piano roll and away you go

hope that helps

Thanks for your help Rob :)

I found some of my VST synths and using the small keyboard at the bottom I can hear one of them.

However, my midi keyboard does not seem to work :?

Any pointers?

1 - go to the 'settings' tab ('audio devices' section) and make sure your MIDI keyboard is enabled as a MIDI input

2 - return to the 'edit' tab and your MIDI keyboard should now be visible as a little draggable arrow to the left of the track view

3 - drag that arrow towards the track that holds the instrument you want to play ... as you get near it should snap and stick onto the track ... this enables your input for that track

4 - you might need to enable 'e-to-e' (button down near the transport controls) to hear your input

that should do it

OK assuming you have your midi keyboard drivers working - and you have the keyboard symbol lined up next to the track you want to work on:
Have you got end to end enabled (the button near the transport area)?
That might help :?

I can hear my keyboard :D changed (edirol pcr midi in - edirol pcr 1) and it worked :!:

Thanks a million Rob. I'm off to play a little and I'm shure to be back with some questions later on :)

you don't want to select "edirol pcr midi in",
you want to select "Edirol PCR 1".

...the "Edirol PCR MIDI IN" is the midi port on your PCR keyboard for connecting other midi devices to your computer, through the PCR.

T7 doesn't come with any VSTs. you#ll have to get hold of some (there are loads of high quality freebies to be had - just search KVR). You will need to install the VSTs in a folder and then point Tracktion to it using the the options in the Settings tab. Then do a scan for the Vst .dll files also using an option on the Settings tab.
