Can I build a tempo-gate/MIDI-triggered gate with MUX?

I'm a big fan of Cairo. Not the city but this one:

But I'd like a tempo gate or even a MIDI triggered gate (with sidechain) with some more features.

I need it for effects ("trance-gate"), as a noise gate I'm using ReaGate but unfortunately it cannot be fed with MIDI, as far as I know.

Is it possible to make such a tempo gate or MIDI triggered gate with MUX, and if it is, how? :help:

Of course and it's very easy to do:

The module you need is the Multi-Point Envelope under Others > Modulation Generators...

- Open up a MUX

- you need to have inside (minimum):
+ Audio Input and Output
+ Event Input
+ Amplifier and/or Multimode/TF Lowpassfilter (depends if you want to gate via Amplitude of Cutoff)
+ Multi-Point Envelope

- make the connections in the audio path like you want them to
- connect the Event Input to the Multi-Point Envelope
- connect the Multi-Point Envelope Modulation out to either the Gain input of the Amplifier or to the Frequency Input of the filter
- create the wished envelope inside the Multi-Point Envelope or load a preset and here you go...

The Multi-Point Envelope needs an Event to start for the first time but as well with this method you can retrigger the envelope with every new event you send to it...and of course it is expandable in any way you want i.e. with the Audio Balancer 1>2 you can built a wet/dry control for the gate effect or you can use an Audio Envelope Follower to create events for triggering the Multi-Point Envelope... etc...

BTW: In the Factory library:

Factory Presets > Effects > Experimental Units...

There is a preset called "Trance Gate" (the "Step Sequence" is nothing else but the Multi-Point Envelope)

This is already all you need to do a midi triggered classic trance gate effect...
Just send Midi to this effect and here you go...

Also see the "Note Gater" patch. It's a simple ADSR -> Amp combi that can be triggered by sending notes to it. Great for creating all kinds of trance gate effects.

And feel free to go into the deep editor for that patch and add a distortion or anything you like!

That's a nice one! I added some tanh distortion into the chain and the trance gate sounded like having a 50 voice unisono (but my headphones are still working)... :hihi:

BTW, a BIG panic button would be great to have, so if I'm experimenting with MUX and the gain suddenly jumps up like crazy, I could save my ears...

There is a panic option. In the shortcuts I mapped it to a modifier and a key to make quick access to a panic button. (I set is as ctrl-p because I don't think Mulab is going to be printing anything anytime soon...hehe)
