Hi Jules,

Could you give us all some update on what's happening regarding patch releases ? It's been a while (relatively speaking of course ! :) ) since anything new came out and there are still a fair few buglets that need splatting. I appreciate you are probably still busy with the house move and development work on T2, but still, some info on updates for T1 would be good.

No offence mate, but all I seem to be doing lately is coming to the forum to see what's happening and what posts you've been making, and all I usually find is, not a lot, and Jules has posted another message trying to organise a p**s-up :-) Nothing wrong with a crate of beer or twelve but could you possibly update us on when (if? :o) the next update is likely to be released ?

...and (cue ominous music)... once T2 is out, what will happen to T1 ? Realistically ? Can we expect all development (i.e. patches) to stop ? Will we be left stranded, high and dry in the wilderness... no-one to turn to...

dude, you just asked for an update for no reason. You did not state why you want an update....like because there is a bug that needs to be fixed or some feature request (that proably wont happen till v2) you just blantly ask to see a new number during your Tracktion start up screen. Be more specific as to what bug you want fixed.

I think what's underlying this is a nervousness about how small the support is for this app -- one person. It's not like bigger companies which, even if they don't always seem personally responsive to customers, at least you know they're probably going to be around for a while and will keep providing updates and patches, supporting OS releases, etc. and you won't be left stranded with an unsupported piece of software that is abandoned by its developers.

With a young, small company like Raw Material Software, you don't have that same feeling of security; but you can balance that out if the company is personally responsive, the developers show their face and prove their active involvement with the product. So when Jules is quiet on development for a while, people get nervous.

Even though Tracktion, financially, is a steal compared to similar software, nobody wants to invest in a product, get attached to it, integrate it into the core of their workflow, just to have to switch to something else later on because its development is not kept up to date.

Just some businessy type thoughts. Maybe it's just me and I'm :nutter:

Jules already said, on several occasions, that there won't be any major changes in T1. He also explained that no release date will be given, as that is Mackie's policy - and they are in charge of marketing. Same goes for pricing. He also said clearly that T2 won't be released in the next couple of months.

SO basically what we have now is what we'll have in the next couple of months at least.

All these issues have been addressed by the man himself on several threads. This includes the "lack of response":
jules wrote:To be honest, there's not much support from me at the moment because there's not much to say.. There are less new releases because I'm working on stuff for V2 instead, and because the app pretty much works already. I'd love to hang around and chat, but I'm just too busy these days!
Also, when a dev arranges a meeting with the users, that can't be qualified as not being "personally responsive", can it?

....And I can see Jules being very busy as well.
Remember guys sometimes it is only a couple of folks running everything. If there is a problem with the app. then that's one thing, but if not, please try and have 'some' patience. :)

why on earth would Jules continue to develop T1 once T2 is out? it's a new version. would you expect cakewalk to continue developing sonar 2 when sonar 3 is out? should ableton continue releasing updates to live 3 once live 4 is released?

 I think you sayd what a lot of people were thinking.

I agree with the answers to the original post, though Jules did say, about 2-3 weeks ago, that he had a new version with bug fixes that would be ready in a day or so. That was 2-3 weeks ago.

Maybe that is why Aneng asked about a new version.

Huh, well than I with draw my statement as you where refering to a genral bug fix stabability update the Jules talked about and did not release on time as opposed to what I though, you just where openly saying you wanted an update for no reason. Right on, I definitly think Tracktion is not the stablest and could use some updates.

the three bugs that I really wish were fixed soon, because they most bother me on a day to day basis are:

1) looping - both losing the first note, and the fact that timing on the playback of the first note can be a little off

2) the MIDI IN icon takes an unreasonable amount of time to register the fact that it has been dragged to a new track. If I drag in th input to a track, count to fice, I don;t expect to still be sending MIDI data to the old track, especially when the note off almost never goes to the the old track so hung notes are almopst a certainty.

3) the click through bug where plugin UIs don't receive click events on their surfaces, leaving those events to do random things to any underlying widgets or unecessarily close the plugin window.

everything else I can wait until V2 if needs be, but these three things have been making me use FL far more than I'd like of late. :(

Just an other annoying one :

4) Tracktion sometimes stop rendering in the middle of a tune, when i do something else while it renders.

had it also two days ago while I didn't do anything else - it just stopped halfway through, so I went out and when I came back about half an hour later
it still had been stuck at the same place :-o

said my girl-friend to me (who is also my singer)
with an annoyed tone in her voice:

'When do you finally stop using Tracktion?' :?

Post

Ouch... but what does a singer know about sequencing software?

Seriously tho, there must have been other recurring problems that interfere with your recording process to make her say something like that... what's been going on?

Post

jens, I think you should make it clear to her that Tracktion is sensitive to negativity. Maybe if she wore a Tracktion T-Shirt it would work better in her company.

Tracktion got really quite upset when I forgot to replace the battery in my clock. :o

sometimes she handles it herself
(e.g. I go to the supermarket buying things and
when I come back the verse is recorded or the
reverb,eq and compressor are edited to her liking)
and actually she likes using it because it's so easy to use but there really are a lot of weird and annoying things happening - as a proof and example I'm gonna start a new thread with a nice screenshot this evening when I'm back home from work :?
