Fair enough, I can't really expect stupendous world-class support on a $50 plugin, and truth be told I've almost never needed it on their products anyway. The last time I had any issues with my four AD plugins was early 2011.

I'm just a little gun-shy coming back ITB after using hardware, regarding license issues and the like :hihi:

There are even many freeware developers who offer world class support, for example Tony of Klanghelm or Fabien of Tokyo Dawn Labs, so a low price doesn't mean that the customer support can be dropped.

I'd be ok with just lackluster support, the big issue is that, without demos, the only way to try an AD plug is to buy it, and if you can't get a hold of anyone to get a refund, you are S--- out of luck.

A freeware deveoper is offering free shoeshines with their plugins, so I recon every developer should do it. :hihi:

On the other hand, Chris from AD is one of those personalities. He's blunt and speaks his mind, which is awesome, or not, depending on the context. I got the impression he was the sort of person that would be quick to assume he was dealing with an idiot, which in a lot of cases is possibly true in all fairness, but... where am I going with this? I have no idea.

Well, it's not just Chris. It is Adam as well that make up the core that is Audio Damage. And that is pretty much it.

They are looking to expand a little bit and give some paid work to some freelancers, but I'm pretty sure that AD = Chris and Adam. Plus their other halves and SOs.

If you follow their blogs at all. They both have lives. Real lives. And they both have difficulties. And I'm not saying anything that you wouldn't be able to glean yourselves from following their blogs for a while.

I was so impressed with Chris's AnalogIndustries blog, that like the nutter I am, I ended up devouring the most recent 50 pages of it going back years, in a night or two. Boy, was that an eduation in life, love the universe and even a bit of VST tech thrown in for good measure. We are lucky and blessed to have these guys.

And I respect the viewpoint of those that will never deal with them again because of shoddy service in their eyes. I probably come across as a bit of a fan boy. Well, maybe more than a bit. Sure, I'm impressed, but I don't have gurus or think the sun shines out of anyone's backside. What I am impressed by is the sheer breadth and depth of knowledge some one like Chris has. And his communication skills are second to none, but you have to be tuned into the right frequency.

There is so much added value and much that can be taken from reading their blogs, both Chris's and Adam's. They make plugins sometimes. Let me paraphrase the Sisters Of Mercy website:

I've just started following Chris on twitter. I don't follow anyone on twitter. I can't f**king stand twitter or the people that use it. But life is full of little paradoxes. I can embrace them as they come along.

Chris is so excited by so many things, by so many concepts. He thinks in the abstract. He thinks modularly and links it all together. Who knows what he will come up with next. And all the time, Adam is there, doing the heavy lifting. And he has his load to carry too. They have real lives, with real life problems, as we all do.

And I just adore their plugins. I am on a mission to buy every single thing they have ever done. Same with Voxengo. Aleksei gives support in a way that is anathema to AD. But each case is individual. I love Voxengo because of the support and the courtesy shown. Is Aleksei any less of a coding genius with his plugins? I really don't think so. It's what he does. It's how he is.

But again, I don't think it is on, if you don't offer demos of your plugins and say that you will refund no questions asked if you don't like them, and then not refund that money. I have heard many many people back up the fact that they do indeed do this - they always refund the money if people are not satisfied. And I so far have not heard of one person that tried this and did not get a refund, whether sooner or later, I don't know.

But good on ya for voting with your feet. I'm doing the same thing with iZotope. It took just two piss taking mails from them to finish me for life with them. I will never have a good word to say about them and I will never promote their products. I will never do skins for them. I will never share presets. But I will never pirate any of their products or condone that anyone else does. That must be said. It is a principle and principles are absolute. But so is my disrespect for them as human beings more than anything else. They sure do make some amazing plugins. The cream of the crop I would say. And yes, I probably will buy some more if I can get them cheap. I'm a hypocrite. But it's really no big deal. I just won't ever buy a product from them directly again. But I will expect the same service I have received so far - which is none at all. And I will expect to be treated as I have been so far, which is to say, I expect them only to insult me further. My anger with them knows no bounds. They have made a very big enemy of me. They are the only VST plugin company to have achieved this, and believe me, a few have tried.

You see, iZotope have the manpower, they have the business model, but they still take the piss. There are no promises with Audio Damage. They are a small boutique operation that are quite small in the grand scheme of things. But they are a lot of fun. And they are moving forward. They are nimble and they are hungry. They have their eyes on the prize and they are going for it in a big way. They dare to think different. And they dare to act different. Their very vocal views on copy protection being a major case in point. Thankyou! Someone had the guts to say it.


If I ever have the need for customer support from them, I will expect to be insulted. No, I will demand it! I would be very disappointed if this was not the case.

I wouldn't want to be a member of any club that would have me as a member.

Yes, I'm being trite and flippant. And our mileages certainly vary. But to all those dropping Audio Damage because of the sub-par support, I can only say I applaud your decision. Someone has to give them a reality check. Then again, someone has to support them and give them free reign to grow as they see fit.

You have to get to three emails with Izotope before they do the right thing. Their first reply is policy, their second reply is editorial reiteration of said policy. Third email is capitulation.

It's a shame they don't get it right on the first reply. Great products though, most of them.

There's never an excuse for shitty service. Everyone has a life. Everyone has to go to work, attend funerals, get sick, and eventually die. With the exception of the latter we still need to function or else we don't eat.

Two very small companies that I use always have tremendous communication. Sean @ valhalla and Andrew @ cytomic. Andrew and Sean are always super busy but always returns my emails. I'm a lifelong customer of those 2 companies now.

If AD can't find time to support their customers they should find something else to do.
