The mixer paradigm

Mixer is probably not needed now, but after control surface implementation - who knows.
If I had a HUI I'd surely want to see the faders in the similar fashion.

I just got Tracktion after demoing it for about a month. It's great, and I don't really miss a mixer. However, a simplified method of using send effects would be much appreciated. I know about the rack filters, but so far I've only been able to successfully use one "rack send" effect per track before I get an unwanted delay effect.
Rack filters a great, but it takes too much time setting them up for this particular task methinks.

I tend to divide the writing and mixing phases into 2 distinct jobs, and for the mixing bits a more traditional mixer would be a huge help - trying to spot overcooked tracks from 30+ teensy little level filters is a pain...For now I've been exporting all the audio tracks into cubase and mixing there simply because the mixer gives a much better overview of levels and clipping.
But the way tracktion works now is absolutely perfect for the writing phase..
Just IMHO of course

Ditto... I love the idea someone had about selecting several objects and having a "mixer" instantly created to control them allsoulata wrote:Mixer is probably not needed now, but after control surface implementation - who knows.

I think this would make sense - control any set of automation parameters from your control surface; it could then also optionally show these in a resizable "page" (like the rack filter pop-up), but still control them if this is closed.Rock wrote:Ditto... As for the difficulty in working with level meters - someone suggested some channel strip like plugin a while back - you can have several of these open (just lock them) to represent different tracks if you need more complex metering. PSP Vintage meter may also cover you (and its free)

Yup, you mean like selecting a few tracks (say up to 32), press ctrl+whatever and have a mixer with them in front of you.Rock wrote:I love the idea someone had about selecting several objects and having a "mixer" instantly created to control them all
Uffff
yes please

Jules has told us many times that he's planning for v2 to have user configurable control surfaces. i'm convinced these will facilitate building a mixer.

Yeah I agree about the sends. Although theres no better way of working with multiple outs than rack filters. They absolutely rock for that.Breakpete wrote:I just got Tracktion after demoing it for about a month. It's great, and I don't really miss a mixer. Anyone here think we will never see an actual soft “mixer” built into T? Mackie took over distribution of Tracktion for a reason. They make mixers and control surfaces. If T never has a soft “mixer” built in, the control surfaces can be marketed as “The perfect combination”.
For recording I think Tracktion is by far the best application I have ever used. When it comes time to mix it can get a little tricky (only because your logic has to switch over from this linear left to right bit to now trying to mix from top to bottom). Even if there was just a simple way to switch views so you had the tracks (starting with the controls and effects area on top) Running from top to bottom. Then you would be mixing left to right. And no. I’m not drunk.

I think that people who want a control surface will buy a control surface, no matter how mixing is done in Tracktion and vice-a-versa. And to flip the argument around, it may be easier for Mackie to sell mixers to Tracktion users if T has something visually analogue to their mixers. However, I am also not sure if Mackie have that kind of veto power over Tracktion's features.
