lol! don't like that snare huh? heh... I think I do need a better snare and kick sample tho... the ones I have are fine.. just... they could be better...

glad you like the song tho :D regardless of the snare
I'm not joking.... :help:
Sounds as if the snare is broken... I don't know anything about snares so i'm sure it's the sound you're after...
But sounds strange...

I've listened to your song some more times and i still LOVE IT ! :D

you little bastard this is pretty good!
:D
don't know if this is the first version you've posted, but I would like the vocals just a little louder..
I don't even mind the snare

On second thought, instead of cutting that line in early parts of the song, I would try making each instance of the "na na na" line just a little bit louder than the one the preceded it. Start at a low level, where people might not even notice that it's even there, and then increase the level each time it's sung, till you get to the climax of the song, where it would be its current full volume.

That's my extremely tiny suggestion for today, for whatever it's worth. ;)

McLilith...
Hey, glad your liken it... and yeah on the chorus... it does get a lil jumbled in places... I think I may take your advice a lil on the first chorus and hold it back a little there to give it a little variation, because I messed with it some more today and I think I may end up not putting a bridge type thing in it... just stick with the break that's already in there... altho.. it's really easy to solo over this progression... I dunno.. heh.. I'm undecided on that part so far...

Ixox
yeah... the snare could be better... but it's pretty close to the sound I was looking for... mayb I should just record my snare myself... being I like that sound a little better... heh... glad you still like the song tho regardless of the broken snare ;)

bluedad...
Hey bluedad, always glad to hear your liken it :D hmmm... vocals louder still? mayb on the chorus a little louder? not for sure... they seem a lil loud in the verse right now... but I'll mess with them some more... ;) heh... glad to hear you don't mind the snare :)

well, it also rocks because it's a place where you can hear great music that hasn't been sanitised by the mainstream. :D

Thanks for letting us hear it.

Hey hey, I think you got it, GC... I think this is the first tune of yours that I'd call "top drawer." It's a unique creation, works a charm, with all the bits fitting together like a finely tuned machine.

Lyrics are great, the guitar riffs are stylish and memorable, and you're really finding your own voice with the vocals. It reminds me a lot of Sunny Day Real Estate, or Modest Mouse... two fantastic indie rock bands of the last few years... :)

A few ideas for improvement...

The mix is a bit tiring.. I dunno what it is, but it gives me a headache. Maybe I'm getting old. I think it's just that the vocals are so quiet, I have the tune cranked, and the guitars and drums are just slamming my ears.

In the breakdown at 2:30, consider moving the lead vocal around a bit. Go ahead and let the arc of the the vocal melody wrap back up a few times. It gets too tedious hearing it drop down over and over...

I dunno if someone else suggested it, but I'd try leaving the backup vocal out until the last chorus...

Great stuff, GC! Damn I wish I'd been able to write like this at 18. You bastard! :x

That's odd. I literally played the song in a constant loop for a few hours, the first day I found out about it. I found that if I tried to turn it off, I went into withdrawl. ;)

I'm not sure exactly what it is, but something about this song suits me like no other song has in very a long time.

ok... I tried mixing the 1st chorus without the bsckground vocals... but it just seems very 'lacking' if you've listened to the other version :( .... I did do what garret said on the break tho, pan around on the vocal a bit, adds a nice touch :)

but I'm still not sure on the chorus bit... I dunno if I should calm down the 1st chorus with the guitar tamed down too? or try to add some delay and reverb to the vocal to make it stand out.... oh.. and btw.. there are actually two different harmony parts in the chorus... one does the 'na na na' bit and the other is I think a third above the main vocal...

but neways... off to mixing it some more...

As for the crapulent sound-system test...

It even sounds good on the tiny built-in speakers on my laptop! :D

Er, I'm intrigued to hear it. Actually though, I meant the move the melody around a bit (not the panning). I keep hearing variations in the melody, rather than repeating the same drop down line over and over.. :) But panning is probably cool too!

Great pop-rock song.

me i quite liked the snare - all is matter of taste, etc.

The vocal part sounds a bit flat, too low in the mix. you could try to make it a bit brighter.

cheers
