I think I asked something like this in the past but I can't remember the answer.
I save all my stuff (Rhythms, loops etc) into my own folders in the MDrummer directory which is in Program data of course.
If for some reason I had to re-install (not update) MDrummer, will my folders still exist...is there a reference (or something) to them in App data?

Basically all the data is in the installation folder, so you can backup it however you want. If your computer crashes or something, but the HDD with these data survives, you can just install MDrummer in the new system over it - it will replace it's factory files, but your files will be kept intact.

I think we might want to keep an updated copy of our personal files on another hard drive or storage device. Then if and when we reinstall MDrummer, or even if we have to format our PC's and reinstall Windows, we can move our folders into the directory.

Yes, as you suggest, to feel safe, that's what I have been doing and had to re-install some time ago, and the copying folders (lots of them) has been pretty tedious.
What Vojtech seems to be saying is that if I have the whole MDrummer (from Program data) backed up on another drive, then in the event of a major wipeout I could just put that whole folder back in Program data then install over it, and my personal files will stay there untouched. This makes sense I guess, but scary stuff.
I guess I could test it, keeping a copy of Program Data/MDrummer intact on the external drive with my personal files in it safe and available if need be.

Yes, but then you'd have to make adding new stuff to those folders part of your daily routine. Maybe future updates will allow the user folders to be kept somewhere of our choice. We would just need the ability to direct MDrummer to our user folder. Lots of programs do that, so it should be fairly easy to implement. I don't code in any way shape or form, so I might be way off base, too.

If what Vojtech is saying is indeed correct (I believe you Vojtech!), then I would just have to routinely back up the whole MD folder which would be easier than mucking about with lots of small user folders. But, yes, I can see what you mean about having an umbrella user folder, that would be even quicker to backup..I have considered that in the past: just one overall user folder with my own sub folders but the trouble would be with generating..that process looks for files (including mine) within the structure of the factory directory (which is where we are prompted to put our own stuff). Anyway, good stuff, food for thought, I too know nothing about programming, would need another life.

Exactly ;). Technically you can just backup MDrummer folder and the plugins and you don't even need to reinstall then ;) (just run MDrummerConfig)
