Most amplifiers these days don't come with a phono (turntable) pre-amp input channel, so if you're buying a turntable to use with an amplifier without the correct input stage, you will need some sort of pre-amp on the turntable (or between the turntable and amp) to get the signal up to line level.

Separate phono pre-amps can go for up to $25,000.

That's a very reasonable price if you happen to be an oil sheik. My NAD phono pre-amp costs under $200.

I just bought a new amp (Arcam FMJ-A19). The phono pre-amp is built in. Great sound with my Basik/Akito/Goldring 1042

There's an actual improvement from analog tv to digital HD tv. But it's not the case with vinyl vs mp3. Of course, if you listen to flac files or any uncompressed high bitrate audio files, it will be better than vinyl...

If we're talking underwears, vinyl as something cotton doesn't have, no?

I am not so sure that digital tv is better. I would rather watch tv with the picture all snowy on a bad day rather than watch the screen go pixalated on me. Makes me think that I am back in the Matrix. My doctor said that I did not need to back to that place again

I got about 1000 records on vinyl, on average they contain 35 minutes of music, that is something like 350 GB in WAV quality, and converted to FLAC maybe 200 GB.

Man, how I wish I had them all on one of small 250GB HDD, instead of having to set aside a shelf to store them all

And getting up from the couch to turn the record every 15-20 minutes, is murder for this lazy git

vinyl...bah...

I had a dumbass vinyl lover over once and I told him that we had put our demo on vinyl. I played the digital version from my DAW. Put on a record, a demo another band had given me, but never switch the record player to the monitors, and hit play again on the DAW from my controller. He sat down and bobbed his head and talked at length about how much better it sounded.

f**king exact same recording he'd just heard.

Reality check: vinyl is not back.
