It was a bit of a struggle getting a couple of my favorite VST's running after setting up a new laptop but I finally got them going and so figured I would share with anyone who may have found similar frustration.

Here and elsewhere it has been mentioned that ZebraCM and Triple Cheese require the older visual C runtime DLL - "msvcr71.dll". This is true but many seem to think that putting this in the standard system32 location will work. I tried that and many other things to no avail. Finally I dug into the problem with a great tool from SysInternals that allowed me to see what the process was doing in the file system. ZebraCm looks in about a dozen places for that DLL but NOT in system32. It does however look in...

"C:\Windows\System"

Not much of anything goes there anymore but if you want ZebraCM to run you need to place "msvcr71.dll" there. If you installed ZebraCM in the normal locations everything should work just fine after that.

PS - As others have mentioned, BE CAREFUL where you get that DLL. Don't go to a DLL site or other questionable location. You should be able to find it on the drive of an older machine running Vista or 7. Just do a global (slow) search if it isn't in the Windows\System folders.

Enjoy!

I had not noticed that Urs had updated the TripleCheese installer so I imagine that might have been fine without this but this gets the old Zebra CM working with Windows 8 and that was what I was trying to do.

Did you try 64-bit version of ZebraCM? All plugins have been updated although still being tested.

Indeed, check out the "Latest Builds" thread :)
