Just did that. rebooted to the bios, disabled hyperthreading. upon reboot I stopped internet/firewall/viruschecker to be on safe side (they only ever cause glitches anyway - not overload). just tracktion. played until it hit 33!

Is this an omen? I'm 32! will I collapse and die when i hit 33!!?

LOL!!!!

Not laughing at your iminent collapse, just the cituation.

I'm getting red stuff happening on the far right. I presume red means clipping. tried pulling levels down - to no avail.

songs mixed appropriatly already surely? clipping doesn't cause overload - just sounds shit right? pulling offending tracks levels down just loses the whole point of the tune.

wish there was some easy way i could convert a cubase (spit!) project to a tracktion (spit!?) project to see if it works.

sigh

Cubase? Whats Cubase?

Anyways, The meters are clipping on mine aswell so its normal for that mix I guess. Try Muting each track as the project goes along, that way you can find out which track is taking up all the CPU or messing up. Tracktion releases the power from the plug-ins on mute, unlike other sequencers I used that shall remain nameless.

OK heres the latest!

if the cursor starts BEFORE bar 25, CPU will collapse on 33. If I start it after (or on) bar 25, NO collapse on 33.

So I looked at waht was doing what - tried muting first track (called perc loop) : no diff.

tried muting track 6 (do they really have numbers?) called buzzwav2. BINGO! no collapse on 33!

but buzzwav2 stops on 24 and does not reappear until 45. the only thing that kicks in on 33 is perc loop.

one of you guru dudes must be able to explain that!?!?!?!?!?!

a lingering delay going down into the depths of denormal or something?

can't recall that demo, but I seem to recall dub-delay being a real bastard for denormalisation. Are you using that plug?

yeah it's on buzzwav2

is that the bastard then? why come it only manifests on 33? the only new event on 33 is perc loop coming back in after dropping out on 24.

tried disabling the dub-delay on buzzwav2. no overload!

why didnt that happen when i wantonly disabled all mda plugs!? hmmm

ah well - life eh?

[extraneous waffle start]
I only got into this shit because i'm a guitarist who hadn't picked it up for years. I was gonna buy an amp (had an electric guitar sitting doing nothing) but i heard of amp modelling etc and decided i'd get into computer based music! so i splashed on monitors and a soundcard - oh to find a sequencer i like!

Why dont you just try recording your own song into Tracktion and see how you like the workflow. Maybe its just some freak thing with the demo song. Tracktion allows you to record and save your tracks to work on them later. Even with the demo. Its worth a try.

I guess the delay values are dropping away to some stupidly small number at that point.

if you are worried about tracktion giving you denormals, it won't any more than any other sequencer. if you are worried about your computer not performing properly, download the free synth Crystal, try the first preset with 1 note held down and tell us your cpu usage. It will be easy to find out if there is something wrong with your setup then.

well chaps.

I decided to do a complete port of my cubase project to tracktion. first i exported the midi data. then went through all me plugs and saved off an fxb (or whatever it is) for whatever patch + modifications I was using. now i'm replicating the entire VSTi/FX chain in T.

I'm half way through and i've got a feeling in my water that T (see! I'm calling it "T" already!) is the girl for me. so far all is well with me plugs and the big red thing at the bottom of the screen is now small and green. (OK granted that was the demo and its plugs causing that - but it didn't look good for T - harass Jules!) mmmmmmmmmmmmh.

just for the record - 90% of conversion process is looking (finding!) cuebase settings etc - 10% slapping them into T! The whole single window thing is sheer sex. Shame the plugs cant switch off those GODAMN AWFULL HARDWARE LOOK-ALIKE GUIs. I HATE KNOBS!!

All plugs should have a "Sod the fancy gui - just use the default interface" option. IMHO. some exceptions i'm sure.

f**k! For a while I was not sure if I was doing music or just learning cuebase. I'm sure T's not perfect but I won't miss all that bollocking about just to get a ruddy sound!

Thank you all - I would have sacked T without your help.

Onwards!

OK - I think i've got it somewhere having discovered it's existance today through this site.

crystals first preset (atmosphere) just went to 20% cpu. Its a real mother for cpu i've read.

I'm not ill then?

Isn't there a setting in the tracktions settings page to adjust for p4 denormalisation? I'm not sure, 'cos i've an athlon processor, so it's never bothered me. Not got T in front of me either, but don't you just turn something on there ...?
