Hello,

While a DAW, Cubase or other is open, how do I record everything that I can hear. Let me explain:

I sometimes get to doing something interesting and want to record the audio but do not want to get involved with setting up an audio track. Is there a PANIC RECORD button that will automatically record all the audio which is audible?

I sometimes get to doing something interesting and the timeline is not moving the tracks may or may not be record armed. Is there a PANIC RECORD button that will automatically record all the audio which is audible?

I sometimes get to doing something interesting while I am scrubbing and want to record that. Is there a PANIC RECORD button that will automatically record all the audio which is audible?

Once recorded you will get a prompt asking where to put the recorded audio track.

Ok don't laugh.

Audacity will record everything that's audible. Not sure if you could start it with a single button, but I don't see why not. Or you could just leave it running all the time.

hola,
the tape machine module in Guitar Rig can work pretty well for this purpose.
(or a comparable VST that can record "live" sound placed on the main output channel)

not quite a big flashing PANIC (!) button, but close to that functionality.

That's what I do...make it part of your default DAW template. It's easier in some DAWs (Reaper...just set a track to Receive All and throw a limiter on it) than others (Logic...you have to route tracks to a buss). AudioMulch has a built-in file recorder on its Sound Out contraption (which is by default, the very last module in every patch) that makes it super-easy.

Benedict Roff-Marsh used to have a plugin called PreRoll Recorder that was basically a continuous 15 to 60 minute loop buffer.

You can also use Reaper's ReaStream for recording all computer audio playing (i.e., not just DAW audio but streams from internet/other programs).

As a last resort I have a Zoom recorder set up ready to go right by my speakers for those moments when I'm singing/playing and don't have a room mic patched into the DAW.

I would like to accomplish recording inside a DAW and not with a second application running. Below a suggestion to record continuously may do the trick. I wonder how much it will slow down he DAW. I assume just a little.

Guitar Rig is a little too expansive for me.

Yes the "flashing PANIC (!) button" should spell out in Morse code dot dot dot, dash dash dash, dot dot dot (SOS)

It would be nice if Cubase and S1 and Sonar had a "Receive All" as Winstontaneous pointed out. I should check the to see if they do.

You idea will work, but will not do part #2 and #3 of my request:

PreRoll Recorder may do the trick. I tried to see if there are other programs like PreRoll Recorder. I cannot tell if the other wav recorders function in a similar manner. If any can review them and tell me if they are better than the PreRoll Recorder. And are free!

I decided to get the PreRoll Recorder and in the process I found:
“These things are part of my online history. They are no longer supported.”
By “not supported” I assume it means it is no longer available for sale.

The big problem is all of these only work on Windows (and most are very old or discontinued) - there is a huge gap in the market place for a recorder plugin for Mac.

I wonder:
PreRoll Recorder.dll is 855KB dated 8-5-2006
Is this V1 or V1.1?

In any case I tried the Preroll Recorder in Cubase it and works. Unfortunately the Preroll Recorder does no work unless Cubase is in play or record mode. The Preroll Recorder does not record the scrubbing of an audio waveform or the audible playing around of a VSTi.
