It would be very cool if you could sync compressor release time with project tempo (note values of 1/2, 1/4, 1/8/, 1/16, etc.).
It may not fit into many other people's workflow, but it's worth hearing what folks think.

Actually this really doesn't make much sense because release times are just orientational - it controls how quickly the level rises, hence it cannot control how quickly it reaches the target level (better if you draw it i guess
), so syncing it wouldn't help at all.

I can't seem to find something to do quite what I'm thinking.
I'll try the multiband tremolo + mod with depth mapped to amplitude; though I forget if there's a way to adjust the envelope follower speed....

Out of interest: what does the release time actually represent? Could you explain in one sentence something like a formula? Thanks

quietcreep - of course there's envelope follower speed. But you cannot sync it, it's the same thing as with compressors. I'd be really interested on your idea of what are you trying to accomplist, because my head just doesn't take it
.
CableChannel - well, release time controls "how quickly the level goes down". There's really no easier explanation

I'm trying to figure out a way to create a natural-sounding "motion-izer" that syncs with the tempo and reacts to the amplitude. It should inhibit/reduce the volume of the source, with an attack synced to a note value; it should then release synced to another note value. A sort of hybrid dynamic and time-based effect.
I guess the challenge would be scaling the current source amplitude to control the depth of the tremolo-like effect. I'm not sure how this sound or what it would do to frequency content other than adding some harmonics (depending on the speed of the effect).
Maybe I can just combine a compressor and a tremolo in my chain. I dunno. Any of that make sense?

Well, I'm kind of lost in the translation
, or more like it doesn't really make sense to me. Tremolo is synced, compressor (or in your case it looks more like gate) is "synced to level". There's nothing in between.

I might play around with a few things and, if I can get it to do what I'm envisioning, I'll send some audio your way.
