Thanks for the link. Great article...the last two paragraphs do a great job of summarizing some of the reasons we like analog emulations.

I just read it diagonally. It appeared to me that they did not compare Satin to a hardware tape machine, probably because they don't have any. There was a picture of a ReVox machine, which is a consumer class tape machine, quite irrelevant. Looks like the author has not much experience and knowledge with tape. The text avoids some amateur traps (it's not 100% like tape), but seems rather meaningless from what I've gathered.

It's alright, the author may have some authority in music production, but maybe not very much in old techniques. Therefore rather irrelevant, this review, I'm afraid to say.

That's fine
everyone is entitled to say/think/believe what they want i guess, including you.
It just seems you're offended that the author wrote satin doesn't sound like analog a 100%. We all know satin is a superb sounding plugin!
I thought it was an informative read and that's why i posted the link.

I guess it was the "in depth review" part/title. Never mind, it's a good and informative review.

I feel ya! I wrote in-depth because it's a more lengthy review/article than what i normally find on the internet and magazines.

I think he fairly summed up what Satin is all about. He didn't do test comparisons, which would be difficult to say the least if not impossible, for reasons he stated. Satin models features fund in various machines, adds quite a few not available in machines, and models / approximates many components. I suppose someone could examine the presets and measure things like THD and IMD or whatever and compare to the originals, but each original was different, and the results even varied with the type of tape used.

Ultimately, it is up to our ears as to whether or not Satin is useful or fun, and it appears that Satin has delivered fully right out of the gate on both of those most-important real-world measures.

There's another similar review in Computer Music, Dec, 2013.
