sorry been out of town again so late to the beta party, ... just got 04.zip and the dirty 03 dll's installed and seem to be working ok....
I would agree with those that say the EVE Data folder should be located by clicking on the EVE Data folder itself and not on the containing directory. This is normally how things are done when locating a folder for most apps that I have which require it.
I do greatly appreciate the addition of the Master Volume control... this has been a long time coming and I think it's an obviously needed addition.
I'm not sure it's location is what one would call 'intuitive' however! I see that it is linked with the readout on the Master Controls section so I might think it would be better loacated just to the right of that LED readout... I mean it IS a Master Control, right???
Well actually for me personally, even that is not exactly true... %^) I always imagined that the Master Volume control would be a slider and would be loacted at the right of the three other volume sliders. I can see that might upset the symetry of the GUI a little, but I do think that is the most "obvious" and intuitive location for it. Where it is located now associates it with midi velocity zone settings for the channels and I think that is confusing. Let me think... hmmm maybe it could be a horizontal slider placed just above the three channel volume controls? That would still keep the symetical look of the channel volumes, eh? Or, maybe it could be a larger but narrower slider to the right of the channels panel... i.e. between that panel and the 'wood' border?
I am also confused somewhat by the Limiter.. I don't seem to find anyway to set it... is it just either on or off? What exactly does it limit? Total volume output??? If that is the case, isn't that redundant to having a Master Volume??? Please explain more about this Limiter will you?
Thanks for the ongoing improvements to EVE!!!

hi max,
thanks for testing, Master knob will move from there,
just put it there temporarely to have a quick control,
let's see where I can fit the slider, <grin>
Limiter is a dynamic level limiter, it limits only the high peaks, differently a Master level limits everything.
the EVE Data folder selection will be changed,
since most of you want that, <grin>

Great news liqih... thanks for that info.... was away again for few days... so just checking back in... will you have another beta to test before the update is released?
Ok on the limiter... so wondering about this:
I like peak limiters as they can obviously save us from creating clipped sound and still have a very loud sound if desired. It makes me think however that maybe the limiter should just be an automatic function in EVE and therefore be always on... if that was the case you would not need a button to turn it on or off, right? If I understand it right, the limiter really has no effect unless the output is high enough for it to come into action, right? See what I'm saying? Just leave it always on and why have it taking up space in the GUI? Why would we not want it on???

Why not?
1. It uses cpu
2. Maybe we use one of our own compressors/limiters.

yes one more beta, then I release the upgrade
and yes Limiter switch is needed to save CPU if you don't need to use the EVE limiter

New EVE stereo out Beta version
Please read this before running the EVE_0.5.dll
1) run the eve.reg file to add the necessary info to your Windows Registry
2) move your "EVE Banks" folder inside the "EVE Data" folder
3) now you can put the "EVE Data" folder where you like
4) copy EVE_0.5.dll in your "VstPlugIns" folder
5) open EVE_0.5.dll in your VST Host,
when asked find and select the "EVE Data" folder,
NEW in 0.5 :
The Browse dialog now reads:
"Looking for EVE Data folder. Please locate and select it."
now you must select the folder itself.
Master Out Gain in the Master section, range : - infinite + 10 dB,
0 dB is in the middle
Limiter led added to show activity.
Echo Degrade features two selectable behaviours:
soft or crazy : when "+" is on,
note: all presets are so far programmed for soft range, it means "+" off.
Known issues:
Pitch Envelope A B C buttons may miss
* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *
New Features:
1) Free location of the "EVE Data" folder
2) Stereo Limiter, you see the button in Master section
3) Master Volume, you see the button in Master section
4) Totally rewritten Degrade algorithm in Tape Echo effect, try it!
please report to nusofting@liqihsynth.com or here

Ok, finally had a moment to try the beta.
First, the limiter seems to work great! Tames peaks just like it should. I didn't test to see how much cpu% it uses, but it seems very low.
Tape degrade I have a problem with tho - it seems to be the same (very degraded) whether the + sign is clicked or not.

ligih... just got the beta 0.5 and indeed you did a nice job on the GUI controls! good going man...
I wanted to test the limiter in extreme situations to see what it will do... so loaded up from the hqs1.fxb the Rachaels Theme preset and put all the volumes up to the max and the out gain up to the max and the limiter on... you might want to try this yourself and see and hear what happens
I'm not saying that anything is wrong with the limiter under a more normal useage, but with this test it does get a little strange... you'll see on the Channel A meter and hear it in the highs....
I'm still a bit lost as to what the Tape Dirty dll is about? Could you explain to me what I might do with it???
thanks as always

ok guys... knock it off... the point is this: the limiter seems to control the peaks only on the main output gain, eh? But there are still peaks that can easily occur on the individual channels. And you may not even notice these with some patches UNTIL you play a very fast series of notes... I see this happen. In other words, the peaks during a fast series of notes seem to accumulate or build on eachother and the result is lousy sound.
So, ok... I can deal with it by turning the channels volumes down to where it don't happen [I'm not talking about max'd channel volumes here]
So I guess some of the thought is about having the limiter deal with peaks on the individual channels if that is possible...
just telling you what I see...

which makes far more sense than your previous quotemax wrote:ok guys... knock it off... the point is this: the limiter seems to control the peaks only on the main output gain, eh? jens... i think the missunderstanding here is that what I wrote at first was intended for ligih so that he could set up the same sort of test that I did and then just for him to see and hear the obvious... if he don't think anything needs changing.. so be it... end of story..
