It is possible for VSTs to get the note expression data, we send this:
http://www.midi.org/techspecs/midituning.php [SINGLE NOTE TUNING CHANGE (REAL-TIME)]
and this:
http://www.midi.org/techspecs/ca23.pdf

the vst has to canDo "receiveVstSysexEvent" on order to receive them.
Hm - what VST plugins would support that?

The only one I know supporting Midituning is Synthogy Ivory II, but I think it only supports the "static" tuning, not the Realtime variant?

Would that be for timbre or for per note pitch (I tried both without success).

It would make more sense to re-translate the Poly Aftertouch that is translated to timbre back to PA IMO, since much more VSTs support PA and it's a proper per note modifier.

The above could be considered for per note pitch, but it really depends if any plugins actually support this stuff...

Hopefully VST 3.x support and real note expression isn't too far off ;-)

Cheers,

Tom

Ogopogo wrote:Yes you can, just like Live iirc. Just know that's how it works with the drummachine and intrument layer stuff that are groups in themselves, but there is no real groups feature right now that will let you group any tracks you want.
Ah thnk you! I hope they make it likewise for multiout for vst,s ( so you can expand/collapse the mixer track...)does the future request go mad when they re on air? :ud:

Stupid question most likely - will Melodyne work in Bitwig?

There is no ARA in BWS 1.0 and right at the moment Melodyne is one of the few plugins that crash in BWS, so I could never try. I reported it a while ago but I guess other things were higher on the list... ;-)
I only have the version coming with Studio One though, not sure if that makes a difference.

Thank you, Tom - much appreciated! I am buying BWS on the 26th - but perhaps I will hold out with Melodyne a little before it actually works ;)

Melodyne ARA would be amazing in Bitwig, I hope they conisder that. Seems like a relatively cheap way to add a lot of value.

Yeah, I would enjoy that. Way back they mentioned on their facebook page that they had some ideas for how to improve on ableton's audio to midi features. I wonder if something like using melodyne with ARA would be part of that. Since they already have their own pitch shifting algorithms maybe they could make their own view like melodyne where you can see and edit your audio on a piano roll.

A video on ARA for anyone new to it:

As I'm about to start using Melodyne for some other testing ...

On Mac at least, Bitwig + Melodyne Bridge plugin + Melodyne Editor seem to be working OK together. The editor crashed the first time the bridge was added to a project, but after that it settled down.

Audio transferred OK from Bitwig to Melodyne. Pitch correction and playback OK. It does seem to work quite as well as in (e.g.) Logic, but it's working OK AFAICT.

Peace,
Andy.

May be a PC problem then - I'm on Windows 8.1 Pro x64.

So Melodyne doesn't work at all?? What is this some sort of joke? They say VST support, yet don't support a very popular VST. I can use Melodyne in Cubase 5, which is several years old now.

I'm really getting tired of finding out things that Bitwig doesn't do, things that should be standard for any DAW. Sure it's 1.0, but they've taken years to get it ready. Why leave out important features?

I saw the other day that it doesn't have crossfades... again WTF? A very basic editing feature. I know there's no group tracks etc, I just hope they get it sorted. If it was a cheap DAW then fair enough, but it isn't. They're pricing it as a decent piece of software, yet leaving out basic and essential features. I don't think I'll be buying it until these are added, as I use Melodyne, group tracks, crossfades and multi outs constantly.

Relax, try the demo and find out if it works for you. Nobody is putting a gun to your head to buy it on day one ;-)

There are always certain plugs that don't play nice with this or that daw. You just wait for a fix like any other bug. Seeing as how this is v1 I'm sure they are working on smoothing that stuff out.

Thank you, Andy - this sounds promising!

I see some people getting annoyed with pretty basic features being left out. I would assume, and believe, there will be a 1.5 for instance before 2.0 with some more basic stuff added. Seems to me Bitwig is taking the same approach as the Renoise developers, where they build slowly - but the software is rock solid. For me, BWS allready has enough features to make life a hell of a lot better - and with some tweaking you can always get around "missing features". Crossfading, for instance, is not as important knowing that you can have multiple audiotracks playing within a track.. doesnt it? :)

6 days now! Six!

Klaus

Wait, I don't think that's right.
