Hi,

I had to make a break so I don't know exactly when the bug appeared, but with the current version of Uhbiks, it crashes instantly when loaded on Linux with Wine.

ACE works fine, Diva also, I can also plug ZRev after ACE, no issue.

So I believe that the bug comes from Ubhik, it can be easily spotted on Linux with Reaper, or Ableton.

Thanks, and good luck!

I have Reaper 4.591 and Wine 1.7.14 in Ubuntu 12.04 LTS. Diva, Zebra2 and Uhbiks work. I am somewhat worried updating to latest Reaper, because I have very stable system now. What's your Reaper version?

Post

Hi Markku,

I'm an Archlinux user, wine 1.7.14, latest Reaper, and Diva, Zebra2, ACE and Ubhiks from the u-he website, I did download them maybe two weeks ago.

I made a test, I loaded *all* Uhbiks to the same project. While I didn't change the settings much, I checked that all of them performed. You have different distro, my system is 32-bit (for Wine compability), you (probably) have newer Reaper. This is i5-750 with 4GB of memory. (I *do* have better PCs, but for Wine this is best.)

Someone with Reaper 4.6x could probably tell if that is the problem; now I'm also curious...

I'm using 64bit wine prefix.

Crashes are most likely related to file paths & permissions (check set up of Uhbik.data and symlinks), or to Uhbik's surround capbilities.

You could rename any Uhbik...(x64).dll to Uhbik…(x64)_2io.dll to switch surround modes off. It'll then behave like a normal stereo plug-in and you can see whether that's the culprit or not.

:o what kind of magic is that! Ok let me try.

Workaround for ancient hosts that can't handle plug-ins with more than just stereo input 8)

(it's very dated code though, I might need to check whether or not it's still in place… but I guess it should be, there was no reason to take it out)

It doesn't fix the crash.

Here is the output log when it crashed: http://pastebin.com/h5Z2cQep
However, I think that this crash results in errors not checked. It would be better if Uhbik tells me something when it goes wrong rather than crash.

Thanks!

OK, I have a full strace log (500Mo) of reaper crashing when using Uhbik (2 channels).
Do you have some hints on what to search, which file paths & permissions check, etc... ?

Post

Wow, that looks very "early on". Interesting that there's a backslash and a slash in the log file path. That's something I hadn't seen yet.

Do you have Uhbik.data in the same directory as the dll files?

Post

It is very early, as the plugin got loaded into Reaper, it crashed.

Yes Uhbik.data and the dlls are in the same directory, it is a standard installation in C:\VST\.
The '/' is harmless since I'm on Linux and wine does the path translation from Virtual Filesystem (C:\...) to my rootfs (/).

If I setup a VM with Linux, reaper and uhbiks. Would you download it and run it with virtual box ? So you can test.

Cool. I need to know exactly which revision you have, so that we can do a look up. Maybe send your Uhbik-D(x64).dll to support@u-he.com - that way we can also start a support case and keep track of things :)
