Yes, CMD R puts you into the field and Enter enters the name you just typed but you still have to navigate again and also hit CMD R again, on every track, unless i'm missing something there. If so, apologies, and ignore the rest of this post.polsab wrote:1. CMD-R -> rename the track -> Enter -> Down arrow key (or Left/Right in Mixer view)
With tabbed data entry you just type, tab, type tab, type tab and hit enter when you finish. Tab both sets / enters the name you just typed and also steps into the next text field to edit, in one step, a very common if not standard data entry method that you see in... well just about every data entry application on the planet... like in Excel, and in most of the larger professional daws.
I'm not saying the current method is horrible, or that it's a major deal, it's neither.
It's just a standard and already well known key use. If a text field is edit enabled, make tab edit enable the next one and shift + tab step back to edit enable the previous one. It's as common as CTL/CMD+C is to copy something.
Thanks.

This one is about the XY device. Would love to see a reset knob so the position of focus will be reset when parameters aren't touched anymore. Would be even nicer if you could program a timeslope on that progress in beats and ms!

A couple of things I noticed while using for for a bit over a day:
"Prev / Next " button in sampler to cycle through next sample in the folder
Being able to modulate sample start time in the sampler
Imrpovements in the midi editor (finding it a bit sluggish compared to other DAWs
Some kind of slip audio editing mode
Being able to realtime "bounce in place" from the Hardware instrument
Being able to drag and drop wav files from browser into VST plugins (samplers / drum machines etc)
Overall I'm pretty happy with the 1.0 release though

Maybe some of those things can be done in BWS but I haven't seen how at the moment!
1. Be able to use spacebar for play/stop when vst's on top!!
2. When I heard they had a meta browser I thoug it would be something like Mashine/Kontakt. I was really happy cuz for me it's the best browser I have seen. In BWS you can't add/remove tags and when you make a search you don't see the tags list so you have to remember the tags and if you have for exemple a clip named « drumingo » wich could be a trompet and im looking for my drum tagged clip ….drumingo will also be in the results wich makes no sence …..when you search with tags it shouldn't include file names in the results... Maschine 1.8 has the best meta browser for me...
3. Drag and drop MIDI and audio clip from Maschine vst and MIDI from Superior Drummer.
4. Being able to send MIDI to « FM8 Fx » to use that fm synth with external waves sources. In Ableton I use the External Instrument that I rack with the external source (another synth). Maybe there is a way to do it in BWS but I still didn't found it.
5. Being able to select 2 or more track to modify a parameter in all of them at the same time like in most DAW.
6 Being able to open vst via the + in the device section, not only the built in instruments.
7. It looks like we can't export MIDI files other than in the BWS format...?!?!
8. Multi out vst as everybody says.
9. Being able to duplicate an instrument inside an instrument layer.
10. Being able to create my own keyboard shortcut.
11. Probably other things that I haven't noticed yet!

Would it be a good idea if the play head could be modulated on any clip in real time?
For example: Slowing down and speeding up the tempo of a clip or even scratching controlled by a dj controller of a clip on the fly while the arrangement view is playing?

That is possible with the Sampler though.Trinibad1 wrote:Would it be a good idea if the play head could be modulated on any clip in real time?

scrollbar in the sample/device browser doesn't really work. Don't know if it's my system i'm running or everybody else has the same issue. Next to that opening folders of the browser with the right arrow key would be nice

customisable shortcuts would be near the top of my list, including the ability to map the 2 side buttons on my mouse (i'd make them loop selection and zoom selection).

If you have the automation lanes visible for the track and wiggle a knob in the VST gui, that parameter will be selected automatically in the uppermost automation lane (which normally is set to automatic) - ready to be treated...spinlud wrote:- faster way to add a plugin parameter in an automation line
Or do you mean something else?
I personally want the same to happen in the VST parameter list for modulation...
Cheers,
Tom

Well i can't think an implementation more easy and fast then the ableton's one, you tweak a parameter in the plugin gui and istantly it is showed in the track ready for automation.ThomasHelzle wrote:If you have the automation lanes visible for the track and wiggle a knob in the VST gui, that parameter will be selected automatically in the uppermost automation lane (which normally is set to automatic) - ready to be treated...spinlud wrote:- faster way to add a plugin parameter in an automation line

In bitwig i will add also an option in the device parameter list to display on top of the list the last parameter touched...so you get the best of both world, the parameter is ready for automation in the arrange and also ready for modulation and macro assignments in the device chain. Cool?

I would like to state a loosely tentative order of preference with consideration to complexity, or 'low hanging fruit' as Dom said - BUT amongst all this the random crashing with no recall of your work -- I can't buy it in this state, even for the ability to save my work, it even makes testing difficult and I REALLY want to be able to use this at some point in future actually LIVE:
Needs:
BUG: Plz Fix this 44k of 48k bounce problem.
BUG: Plz Fix the automation PDC issue as soon as possible, but get that right plz, don't take TOO long
but if progress is visible I will come along for the ride.
FEATURE: Midi routing - I like how I can put multiple instruments into other one and other for things like Chthulu, but he only way to extract midi from this experiments is to do something complex like Melodyne or Ableton Audio-2-Midi. Plus this is used for all kinds of innovative stuff and hardware flexibility, it's essential. Think also vocoders like Razor who need seperate midi and audio inputs.
FEATURE: Legato mode for session clips, I forgot all about this feature but combined with midi routing I use it all the time... especially for my APC to jam out new parts from fragments of other midi clips, it works really well and would fit well in Bitwig.
FEATURE: Audio Crossfades- Needs no explanation. In tracks and events.
BUG/FEATURE? More undo functionality-- everything should be able to be undone, I just moved an audio clip from one another, overwriting a midi by accident, and I can't undo do it... others have complained about weird behavior and I recall this working before, so I'd suprised if this feature isn't present... kinda epic, maybe a bug.
FEATURE: Multi-outs - Needs no explanation
FEATURE: The long list of VST paramaters is a pain, and weird how they are vertical assignments and everything else is knobs, but at least make it easier to find what you're looking for, perhaps jump to a selected parameter would make things easier.
FEATURE: Resizable tracks in arrangement tracks, horizontally is a bit of a luxury we've been accustomed to and it's helpful for automation, though I appreciate the edit view.
FEATURE/UPDATE/BUG?: The way handles work on the clips is confusing, you don't expect everything to done by creating curve steps, and sometimes the handles don't appear unless you navigate away and come back to the clip.
FEATURE: I'm not so sure how I feel about the way clips are dropped on the arrangement, they drop any extraneous notes they have, its ok in most situations, presumably I'll use the session view more for this, and the side by side certainly makes this easier, but in Live I used to record takes in loops and go back over the whole recording for the best bits, I'd have to do this in session view now I guess... I could probably figure this out.
BUG: reversing clips can sometimes cause really odd behavior like the display not reflecting the swap... Try this to replicate: Duplicate an audio loop. Take that second audio loop, and reverse it, now when I did this it sounded bad so I hit ctrl-z, undo didn't seem to work and the only way to get it back when to start again.
FEATURE: Envelope Modulator and Envelope Mods in general rather than just LFOs, a multi seq like Massive or Omnisphere or Alchemy would be nice...
FEATURE: Group/Folder Tracks - less important than some of the other stuff.
BUG?: My midi keyboard seems to drop out and stop working A LOT. Could be me though.
BUG?: Addictive Drums sometimes crashes the audio engine on loadup, I'm happy how Bitwig handles it elegantly simply having to restart the audio engine with the big orange button.
BUG?: Addictive Drums appears to be able to drop it's midi parts beautifully into Bitwig, but they're zeroed out and forbidden from being dropped for some bizarre reason?
BUG?: Have had on crash perhaps related to VST loading with a message related to 'BitwigPluginHost64.exe' that was a hard crash and one that require a task manager process shutdown. Haven't had it since though.
BUG?: I had some very strange behaviour using the track overlay feature where I would get split keyboards, i think it had something do with one clip being folded.
THOUGHT: Sidechaining - get it in VST compliance one day,but I like the workaroud fine, and compessor is the most important sidechainer IMO.
MINOR QUIBLE: on the piano roll, when I right click I'd like to see my grid options and perhaps some of those snap options.
THOUGHT: People are complaining about the zoom inversion but I've already gotten used to it, maybe a preference to allow them to invert it.
THOUGHT: I'm also fine with work tools, I think it encourages keyboard interaction which is smart... something like a gesture control system a la the video game Crysis would be good.. but I get the tools, they work well.
THOUGHT: I don't care about Rewire, Jack is fine.
NOTE: Alchemy works just fine for me.
FEATURE: Groove Templates - Do something nice with them... that histogram stuff for example, but lower priority over the other easier stuff.
FEATURE: Strech notes and better piano roll stuff would be nice... like retrograde inversions etc.
FEATURE: Tap Tempo, doesn't mean much to me, but others...
ABOVE ALL ELSE, the random crashing with no save of your work, I take it the full version does this also? too bad about these things but actually after a day or two of really playing with it, it is really growing on me.... it requires some changes in thinking but I'm making them quickly. Just need these small things
EDITS:
Quick update on the midi drop situation with Addictive drums, there is a workaround, apparently the loop get dropped into the sound library... then they drag over just fine... not sure if this is correct or intuitive behavior, but it works...
Noticing another thing, just tried to setup my ipad for modulation, no way to use Generic for it because it doesn't loop back..but worse than that, a lot of assignments are impossible because they are too simple... I can't do x, y, (&) z x/y pads for example... Ableton had a list of parameters and you could undo your last override which made it possible... I notice in the project browser you can see CC assignments and remove them, but you can't change them... update on this, because the modulators have dry wet knobs, I don't even need the dry/wet audiorack effect back anyway and it probably has less PDC Issues also.
Would love a chain assignable to CC for FX chain too.
BUG? : Gross Beat works fantastic on tracks, but not on the master channel... possibility this is related to acknowledge PDC bug
BUG?: can't seem to delete some nested devices - in XY fx.
BUG? weirdly can't double click or drag flanger into my track.

Critical - Fix compatibility with Soundtoys Plugs!!
Important - Prev/Next button in the sampler to cycle between samples in a folder.
Important - Solo/Mute functionality, possibly even the ability to solo clips or regions in the arrange. I know Dom said him and some of the team were logic heads for a long time, so it's hard to imagine them not appreciating the utility of these. I have a button macro'd to my mouse which lets me solo regions in logic and I use it constantly when I'm working. If nothing else, at least give us commands to solo tracks.
Important - A quick search command for VST's. It's bad enough that VST's don't show up in the pop up menu where you add plugins in, but at least give us a quick search command - I use this all the time in Live.
Important - Allow us to still use keyboard commands when VST's have focus
Important - Command to quick hide/show VST's
Somewhat important - Make pre-fader sends properly work PRE solo/mute - This is important so that I can solo a side chained sound on an effect track and be able to hear what it sounds like with the sidechain input muted in the background, but still working
Somewhat important - Hotswap of some kind would be nice
Somewhat important - Option to decide whether changing tracks shows/hides VSTs.

I crashed the demo by letting my computer go to sleep with JACK and Bitwig was running. When I woke up and woke the computer up, I bought a license for Bitwig and after activation the tune I was working on was right there in the crash recovery.
