block of flats sound insulation?

I'm moving to a block of flats apartment which practically eliminates all of my chances of mixing any audio at home, since normally these kind of buildings have really bad sound insulation (or never good enough for stopping people from hearing sounds from the other apartments through the walls/floor/ceiling)

I've heard of this "floating studio" concept which as far as I understand a method of sound insulation by building a room inside a room with specially insulated walls. I also understand that it's very expensive and I don't think it's even quite possible for me since I only live there for rent and I'm probably not able to much of permanent/radical changes.

So I wonder if there is any chances to build (semi-)sufficient insulation to this kind of apartment so I can mix at home or just ANY related tips to help me in my situation?

I built a little room with boom mic stands before,had a mattress at one end with multi material hangings for the rest.
No your not gonna pump a 1000 watts but the key is to use at least 3 different materials sandwiched together for your hangings...

well i'm making 100% software-based trance music and using just one pair of old passive speakers.

I've understood that the hard part is to insulate low frequencies, which are the ones most easily penetrating ones and therefore the most difficult to eliminate?
and since it's 4/4 measure trance I'll be pumping out, it's probably more annoying/relevant than with other type of music.

I got the same problem here. What I WILL do one day, is use one of the rooms here, and do like this: build a "box" made of wood, with some cm of space fromt he "box" to the walls. Remember, air is the best insulation yet. If possible, use bricks instead. A guy I know did with briks, creating a "box" inside the room, and the insulation was perfect. He was in a flat building too. Ok, after the box is created, you should put some mattress or insulating-foam (or even eggs case) on the inside of the box. Not inside the wall-box area ok?

That should do the trick...

yeah this is basically the floating studio thing, of which i'm sure it works but I don't think it's currently a possible solution for me...

egg cases will hardly *insulate* ANY sound -- AFAIK it's mostly used for acoustic treatment. And I've read it's just a myth, anyway. Personally, I wouldn't trust it for anything else than what it was made for

indeed, they are used often to cancel the plate effect, echos, etc... but yes, for insulation is a bad choice, my mistake. The floating-studio is still the best thing I would say... I'm doing one for me latter this year...

I know little of the actual placing of the flats or the structure of the building in that sense...
I think there is two stairways, so two entrances to the building and therefore two sets of flats.
so I'm pretty sure there is someone living on the same floor.
