It appears that volume is not automatically modulated by velocity. There's a button that seems to turn on velocity modulation of filter. Is there a way to modulate volume with velocity? I'm demoing OP-X.
SonicProjects OP-X PRO-II - I'm surprised this doesn't get talked about more

Since there seem to be a bunch of OP-X owners around...

The Obxd does sound great but both synths are very similar in basic sound. It's the advanced fine-tuning features of the OPX that allow it to achieve more meticulous control. For example, you can often get the Obxd to sound practically the same as the OPX in a limited range, but for many patches, not across the entire keyboard.layzer wrote:oh, and as for the original OP topic....prob because OBXD sounds fantastic and its free?
If you're after its carefully manicured patches, and you don't mind the 32-bit aspect, the OPX seems well worth the price of admission for all the work that went into its patches. While it's capable of many great patches itself, the Obxd's lack of adjustable key scaling, inv. filter env, and many other tweakable parameters prevent it from achieving the same degree of refined optimization.
As for the "ladies" quip, I can think of a worse word starting with the letter "b"... so there is in effect a sense of class, albeit somewhat derogatory, in that remark...

Fantastic synth, such a huge sound its difficult to fit into tracks sometimes, you almost have to build a track around it
I should look at getting jbridge installed as i am missing it

No there's no way to do that. I asked about it and it might be added in a future version. Using the filter (mapped to velocity) can give a bit of volume change as the filter opens. It can also be mapped to pitch and pulse width.ecamburn wrote:Since there seem to be a bunch of OP-X owners around...

Are you saying the OP-X is not velocity sensitive?!Examigan wrote:No there's no way to do that. I asked about it and it might be added in a future version. It is - You can even control the low and high ranges, which is a feature most synths don't offer. What he's saying is it maps to filter and can be mapped to pitch as well as pulse width. You can't map directly to volume (unless you kludged a MIDI workaround to map velocity values to CC7, but that would be a global control rather than polyphonic).fluffy_little_something wrote:Are you saying the OP-X is not velocity sensitive?!
I guess it's left out for the same reason things like Monark leave it out - because the original didn't have it. Taking "emulation" too far? I think so. But sound level is important to perception, so maybe that's why it's a limitation which wasn't changed whilst all sorts of other stuff (the originals didn't have) was included.

OK, I guess I understand. I was so pissed by the GUI that I never even got that far when demoing it
I hate either extreme, i.e. when notes are all the same volume and when sensitivity is set to max, like with the freeware P8. That sucks, unless you are a good keyboard player, which I am not
Maybe hardwiring sensitivity for volume to a value of 25% (0% being zero sensitivity and 100% being maximum sensitivity) would be a good compromise. Just saying because I noticed that on my synths a value of about 25% works well for most sounds.

Lots of keyboards (especially lower cost controller keyboards, but also many synths) have garbage velocity response. Even where they allow curve adjusting they often have difficulty generating some value ranges and can feel kinda random in their response.fluffy_little_something wrote:I hate either extreme, i.e. when notes are all the same volume and when sensitivity is set to max, like with the freeware P8. I mention it because there's a decent chance your experience might not be totally down to your playing. A good quality piano action makes a huge difference for velocity, but also brings its own issues (loud/clunky keys and often poor/no aftertouch etc)

Is there a standalone version of OP-X?syncII wrote:I have OP-X PRO-II originally for a Windows XP PC. I now use IMac and it's a shame there isn't a proper Mac AU version that doesn't need wrapping and Soundflower. So I tend to use OPX standalone with VFX/XQuartz/Winebottler now.
i have OP-X PRO-II VF,X but just a hassle now doesn't work at all now, just keep hanging and need to restart the VFX.
What version do you use with Winebottler?
