All the best album are digital sounding...

This is the same method MJ used when he was working on Anthony Marinelli's Thriller.

Banging a pipe on a stone slab with Tony Levin and Jerry Marotta behind you.

Exactly. I think out of the four first PG albums third one was strongest overall but fourth one was right up there as the second best. And actually creating really unique sound was the goal PG tried to achieve (and succeeded really well imho). The songwriting stayed high quality but the sound was pretty unique and nothing like that existed at that time.

So you're saying there are no analog synths with MIDI.
An idiot on Set Theory:
"In some cases there is an object called red that contains everything that is red. In much the same way a pot is a plate."

Don't you make your own beans ?
I much prefer getting dried Haricots and making my own tomato sauce to go with them.
Cheaper too.

In my all time top 10 list I got three albums from the mid-80s:

Kate Bush Hounds of Love, and Sylvian's Gone to Earth and Secrets of the Beehive

Sylvian was clever with the synths, I think his crew was one of the few that bothered programming those early digital synths, those albums wouldn't be the same without the textures that are weaving in and out of the background, and they don't sound analog, not really digital either, but otherworldly

All great albums! I'm not sure what synths they used though. Kate Bush obviously made heavy use of the Fairlight and Synclavier in addition to Prophet5 and EMU Emulator. Not sure what Sylvian used though. I'd guess D50 and M1 as they later also featured heavily alongside Wavestation (at the beginning of 1990's about the time the Fripp & Sylvian album came out).

Wrong. Dark Side of the Moon, Low/Heroes, Rattus Norvegicus, Oxygene and The Wombles Greatest Hits have analogue written all over them. The albums you mentioned are of course not "the best" albums. :hihi:

I think Ryuichi Sakamato was more or less Sylvian's band leader on those albums, so I guess he would pick the synths that was used. Sylvian would go "I want this to sound like this or that", and then Sakamoto did his best to dial in such sounds on his gear.

As both GTE and SOTB was recorded before D50/M1 was put out, I believe the DX7 must have been utilized.
