I know that by posting on this subforum I'm likely preaching to the choir, but I had to say I've become totally enamored with this plugin.
It's a true game-changer. There's nothing else like it out there, AFAIK. Odd it doesn't generate more buzz.

I was kinda hoping others would echo my sentiments, tell me I'm not just imagining how great it is, perhaps toss out a usage tip or two.
I'll assume the silence is because there aren't many users. That's a shame. Maybe it's because it's not immediately obvious what this plugin is or what it's good for. "Spectral Compressor" is a whole new category.

I have to second Mr. Baggins' opinion.
I just got it a couple of days ago and I think it's uses go far beyond compression. It's similar to Paul Frindle's DSM plugin, but it's a lot more interesting for sound design because it's a lot more customizable and having the sidechain is a huge advantage. One thing that occurred to me is that spectral transposition and shuffling would be interesting, but it's already a really useful plugin as is.

The plugin just will leave you speechless after you use itbbaggins wrote:I'll assume the silence is because there aren't many users.
I'm still learning to use it so my "tips" might be simple to more experienced users.
Put the plugin in a instrument bus and configure it to affect only the mid channel. You get some control to center and still have hard left and right live and dynamic.
Use the kick & bass side chain preset to other instruments as well. For example an acgtr and an elgtr. Put the plugin in elgtr track and move the threshold graph up to acgtr fundamental frequencies.

That, in fact, was my exact reaction. The plugin just will leave you speechless after you use it
I was so surprised that I set about trying to determine if the effect was real or just some trick. We've all seen effects that seem to do something pleasing at first but eventually reveal their limitations. This one just gets better the deeper I get into it.
Thanks for the M/S suggestion, that's something I've not tried yet.

But there is also a high risk of overact and you really need to A/B occasionally.bbaggins wrote:This one just gets better the deeper I get into it.
I mean that eqs, comps and reverbs are bread and butter and I have used them for years and still I sometimes over use them. Too bright, over compressed and way too much reverb with plugins I'm used to work with. Now I got a new plugin type so the risk to do more harm to a mix is bigger.

True
. You need to be careful. But actually MSpectralDynamics doesn't need to be just "pleasing", it can be used as a fixer to colliding tracks, deesser, denoiser... It's simply a great sounding generalized spectral processor

Hmmm... maybe I should dive deeper into that plugin. Maybe a small tutorial series with typical usage scenarios would help. I remember there already is one to use it a a specral balancer (for the master bus for example) -twas a video when I remember right.
If a plugin does not fall into the standard categories, it's sometimes hard to keep in mind in which cases it would do a good job, and how I would set it up to fulfil its role.
So how about collecting some typical scenarios and "how-tos" in this thread?
Cheers,
Codex

Wow, I really underestimated that plugin. It even seems to be able to fix some mixing errors to a certain degree. It seems to make everything a bit smoother in the sense of reducing harsh frequencies and more balanced overall.
However, with my actual project I had to use a custom threshold curve to prevent the bass of being "tamed" to much.

Thank you!
About the custom threshold - try "slope" parameter, it controls the spectral levels and if the plugin was e.g. killing bass too much for your taste, this should fix it easily
