The Jupiter 80 is the successor of the Jupiter 8?
So can Diva emulate the Jupiter 80 too or is this a completely different sound?

The Jupiter-80 isn't really a remake of the Jupiter-8, right? I think Jupiter 8 sounds fatter, creamier, more... analog

The Jupiter 80 is primarily a sample-based machine. Any J8 sounds are done either using VA or using samples.

From the video description "One of the disadvantages to the Jupiter 80 is of course the fact that it is not analog". So, it cannot compete with Diva.

I tried a Jupiter 80 a few months ago, along with a Prophet 12. I liked the Prophet 12 a lot better overall, and it costs significantly less (according to Sweetwater). It made me think, I wish someone like u-he could make a synth plug-in version of it for about $200.

I am in the fortunate position of owning a JP-80 and very recently, Diva.

These are both excellent rich sounding instruments, they sound fat, full, full-fat even

As much as it pains me to admit though, (JP-80 costs £2300) Diva nails analogue better than the JP-80,the sound is just more like the early analogue gear.

It is also fortunate that the JP-80 also has supernatural acoustic tones which model real instruments, has massive polyphony and has excellent build quality otherwise it might have found itself being sent back to the store

Recently I had been hankering for a hardware analogue instrument, either Dave Smith's Prophet12 or a Moog, but since auditioning and purchasing Diva I really can't justify spending £1000's when Diva does it so well.

I sound like an advert lol, but Diva really is a game changer.

Roland seems to love mining it's past for marketing, but in spirit the latest Jupiters are really nothing at all like the originals. I'm not saying the 80 is without merit, but it's internal method of sound generation is probably about as far from the Jupiter 8 as possible, and it shows. I can't imagine spending $3500 on this instrument when you could get a true analog polysynth for that. Save a bit more and buy a used Alesis Andromeda A6, or better yet, there's a $3000 Studio Electronics CODE 4 up on ebay right now. Short on cash? The Prophet 08 is a fine instrument, though no Jupiter 8. I wonder if Roland will come out with an "Aira Jupiter 8000" that will use it's new ACB modeling tech. That could be a sonic winner if they do it as well as they did the TR-8.

Another route (which I recently took) is the Kingkorg. An analog modeling synth, but to my ears on of the warmest nicest sounding virtual analogs around and they can be found for $700 on eBay .(what I paid for mine) It's got lots of voices... 24 I think and a bunch of OK digital effects. The tube circuit is pretty good for roughing up your sound too. I prefer the sound to my old Virus C and Nord Lead 2x. The new Nords sound pretty good to my ears as well, but they're quite expensive.

But, in terms of value Diva really wins. Lots of osc and filter types. Versatile modulation options and good effects really make this plug in worth of the praise it gets.

JP-80 really is a marmite amongst synths, you either love it or hate it.

If it wasn't for the supernatural acoustic tones it would be dead in the water, but these added to the synth engine for me are a winning combination...priced a little high definitely.

IMO the Prophet 08 is a bit the "smoother Nord Lead". So a bit a different flavor for similar usage like the Nord Lead and not really a pad synth (like the Jupiter 8 ).
But for the Jupiter 80... it's seems many sharing similar opinions. Maybe it's only a option if it comes to live gigs? If the sounds are produced ITB with Diva it should not be the big thing to reprogram it with a Jupiter 80.

There was a demo maybe a year ago or so for a Jupiter 80 soundset that was intended to recreate sounds from Roland's classic analog gear. It mostly didn't impress (and the number of thumbs-down on the YT vid seemed to indicate many felt that way). The analog modeling in the JP-80 clearly is not on the same level as the best current softsynths at all. I think it's at least a minor embarrassment to Roland that a $179 piece of software from a small German company can do a markedly better job of emulating the Jupiters (and Junos) than a synth made by Roland themselves with the Jupiter name on it.

The JP-80 has other strengths, I'm sure, but it seems like trying to do a soundset like that did nothing but expose its weaknesses.
