Bastiaan, I know you are a good person so please don't take this personally but I just don't trust Tone 2 software anymore and this is a perfect example.......Why would a plugin .dll that doesn't use iLok drivers have any "issues" with the latest iLok drivers? What's going on in the background ?
Just for the record I have never used cracks or warez and never will and I strongly support a developer's right to protect their intellectual property any way they see fit but Markus' almost pathological hatred and paranoia concerning cracks has made me equally paranoid about his software. I just don't trust it anymore. I'm sorry but those are just my honest feelings........

Depends I guess, if you don't have the iLok issues the previous version will suffice.

Yeah, I don't get it either...why would the dll affect any 3rd party copy protection systems - especially since they don't share the same protection method? :dog: I hate installers...I don't see why someone would prefer them over a simple dll copy/paste...

Yeah, if it is so that Tone2 software will interfere with iLok/PACE, I will think twice about buying their other software like Saurus, Rayblaster etc as it could interfere with UVI's Synth Anthology that I got on my iLok :help:

Marc,

No worries, I'm not one to be offended that easily. The iLok issue actually had more to do with the way those drivers operate, I can't really go into details since I don't want to publicly dissect their or our own protection system, sometimes code just conflicts and in this case it required a fix for a handful of customers to ensure they wouldn't run into issues.
Unfortunately copy protection is still required to safe guard a company's investments and secure its future, I personally feel we try our best to make sure it doesn't get in the way of paying customers, should an issue arise we'll again try our best to solve it, so far no major issue has been reported and the last crack was a long time ago (fwiw, the releases out there are all retail versions purchased with stolen credit cards and they're blacklisted)

Your feelings towards Markus I can't do much about, though I will say that his stance on all this is far from what I see described here. We've never denied service to anyone who admitted to using illegal versions before their official purchase and never will. Frustrating sometimes, definitely! but if anyone has a problem with how we handle things they're welcome to contact either of us. Just my 10c

All our products have iLok fixes available so you shouldn't run into any issues here, not all iLok users were affected either. Also note that the previous iLok drivers did not have this issue so the problem arose with their latest update, it's not always plugin devs code that's to blame for issues like these.

Thank you Bastiaan, that was a very kind and professional response. I'll just ask one more question.......if the the new iLok drivers are at fault why are there no other developers releasing fixes for the issues the new drivers cause ? :?

I have a another question:

I own firebird payware version and if i'm correct the ddl itself was around 14mb.
Why is the freeware version 37 mb?

Post

Since this is a public beta of a freeware synth, should we expect an official freeware announcement and new release when it's safe to release it as the final version (out of beta)?

Hm, they already had that typo when announcing that Firebird got free on their website too. :P

No problem. Not sure why it happens with their latest driver update, crossed wires of some sort I reckon. It could happen with other plugins as well or not, I seem to remember there are a couple other plugins that ran into similar issues in the past but don't quote me on it, it's always difficult to know what happens with other devs' code.

Heh, obviously this will require a fix on our side. Thanks for reporting it. Does have a nice ring to it, ' Firdbird', perhaps a Swedish Chef version of Firebird? :hihi:
