Talk about the u-he 'scopes

You know how the waveform lines up in the scope perfectly? Personally, I'd rather have the ability to turn on and off this feature. It looks very cool when you're sweeping pitches because that first wavefront stays locked, but when you have any kind of complex waveform with moving parts going, the edge detection goes sparko and jitters all over the place.

In my working with scopes I just tend to tune the scope to A and play A's and harmonically related notes which also appear either stable or moving very slowly. This works very well in Smexoscope and even if the wave drifts left and right a bit due to u-he synths being real analogue (....... .......) it's not very distracting compared to the current solution.

Also, you know what would be awesome? The u-he 'scope as a separate plugin with the option to make it bigger and change the wave colour! I use smexoscope at the moment, but overall the scopes in ACE etc are a lot sexier IMO.

What do the other wavegazers think?

Not sure if the 'scope' was to be taken seriously or not ? but try schwa schOPE in the chain for a more real Analog oscilliscope type of thing

Finally got around to something I always wanted to try - underlaying an oscilloscope or spectrograph underneath the wave editor in Zebra. It's not possible AFAIK, there's a white, non-transparent background in the GUI editor and I haven't the faintest clue whether holes in windows is legit for all window management schemes.

It is possible to use an arbitrary image for the background of the waveform display. I tried recreating a few random waveforms against an waveform-graphic background. Cropping the graphics underlays is pretty fiddly. Moving the graphics underlays to the right spot in the file browser is pretty fiddly. Making the wave-editing GUI element really big made the process of arranging the dots a lot less fiddly. The results with the simple waveforms I experimented with were ... well, simple , but maybe this works for funkier things too.

I'm sure I'll try and figure out some more here ... I think a skin with everything but oscillator controls / editor ripped out might be interesting. Maybe some scheme for loading & selecting 16 background images. Some additional graphical guides might be interesting, perhaps especially horizontally with a harmonic interval ruler.

No clue whether this technique would ultimately be very interesting. It is a bit time-intensive and a lot of steps with different apps involved, but definitely some more experiments on the to-do list.

(Incidentally the to-do list for this weekend is pulling together a few hundred Uhbik presets ... I want to do that, give my ears a short rest from the Uhbiks, and then make a final push to post the stuff (free) sooner than months away from now. If anyone would want to evaluate the near-final stuff, offer a fresh perspective on the stuff I have at the end of the weekend, toss me a PM? I can't offer anything but gratitude and the promise I'll actually read feedback before completely ignoring it )

Yes, absolutely! A simple U-he scope plugin with a few options for visual customisation (size, background, and the different modes from Bazille etc) would be superb. There's a real lack of decent scopes for Mac, particularly 64bit. I'd happily pay for it.

Yes, absolutely! A simple U-he scope plugin with a few options for visual customisation (size, background, and the different modes from Bazille etc) would be superb. There's a real lack of decent scopes for Mac, particularly 64bit. I'd happily pay for it.
