Yeah, the important part is getting the idea down by whatever means necessary.

Later, when you're famous, you can afford to pay world class players to perform your songs live on stage ... or tend to the goats while you create new loops ;)

Peace,
Andy.

Architect doesn't need to grow trees for wood and produce all bricks and mortar.
He is a creator of structures, not materials/elements. In fact, he creates a blueprint for
structure, and this structure is actually built by others.
He should know physical properties of wood and bricks, but he doesn't need to produce them
or to know details of production.
:tu:

Of course an architect should know HOW TO USE the materials. For example, if he/she doesn't know what marble is and where to use it, it isn't a good architect. But he/she doesn't have to know every possible production technique of marble in every detail.

Here an example about music:
If I use Dhol samples, I should know what a Dhol is, how it sounds and how it can be used in a song. But I don't have to know every possible Dhol playing technique.

Even someone who produces real 100 % authentic Indian folk music, isn't able to play ALL Indian instruments himself. That's why there are ensembles made of people who play different instruments together...

I don't like construction kits because I don't want to make a song which is already (pre-)made but I don't have any problem to use samples instead of real instruments... But then, when I get a construction kit for free or 80 % discounted for a few euro, why shouldn't I use it? Should I delete it just because I don't like construction kits generally?

It's pretty hilarious because it's a line of thought most people using sequencers can relate to - you wanna make stuff "your own" by understanding and shaping the lower level intricacies as much as possible, but in the process you also learn it's just an endless rabbit hole. It's something where everyone just has to find his sweet spot and be happy with that. Debates over it can be pretty insightful, and might tell you a lot about the way other people are wired.

Jancivil and wyattrobber's clashes are so hilarious rofl!

Hopefully you sampled that. Because if I ever hear a sample in your music that sounds like a tractor rolling over someone's pelvis and it's not real, I'M GONNA KICK YOUR HOSER ASS, MISTER CHEATER!!! :x :tantrum: :wheee: :band:

All of the fake tractor-squish plugins I've heard get it completely wrong. You can hear that the actors doing the voice samples aren't really in fear of their lives, they're just going through the motions. And the impact sounds. Completely digital.

...and if there is a Wilhelm Scream sample following the tractor squish, we know that shit is SO fake.

Loops - yes
Presets - yes
Musicians - yes
Mastering engineer - yes
Etc.

Seriously, very few albums are made purely by one guy.
I guess it depends whether you find it extremely important that you do everything yourself, or you just want to crack out some tunes.

Honestly, after many years of wanting to be unique, I really don't care. It has got me nowhere.
The tracks I've made that has made me the most money are made in a few hours, using loops, presets and every other trick I know that can speed up the process.

All the people I know who does this thing for a living, does it with speed.
They turn around a track in around 2 days - some even faster. Originality is not usually a requirement.
So, in the end the only people who care about your use of loops are a few of your peers on a couple of internet forums - who incidentally, often doesn't buy your tracks ;)

If you are just in this for a laugh, go ahead and be original. If you want to make some dough, you might need to reprioritise your way of working.

IMHO, art is all about the creator and the creation rather than the tools used. However, I wouldn't use loops unless my arthritis got so bad I could no longer play an instrument. Hopefully, I can last a few more years till that happens. :scared:

basically yes, but the creator is mirrored in the tools he resonates with and is drawn to. which makes it all the more important to let everyone find their own happy place of tool usage. tools don't matter in a static way of "this is good and this is bad", they matter because the creator starts a relationship with them. it's all about relationship. if you love using loops, do it.

Well the tractor thing could tie into the Country EDM tidal wave that's sweeping the music world.

You're not a real EDM producer unless you code your own DAW and instrument, FX plugins from scratch. Not only that but you must also code your own operating system and build your own PC from hand crafted materials. Then you must be sure to provide your own source of electricity from a self built generator powered by cycling on a stationary bicycle. The energy required to cycle your (home made) bike may only come from food (meat, chicken, vegetables and dairy) produced by you on your own hand-built farm.
