Hi,

I am thinking of getting a laptop soon but I am very concerned about being able to run 2-3 instances of DIVA.

Don't know why but lately laptops come with the UV versions, I can find a lot of models with the i5 4200U, i74500u and the i5 4200M. The only laptops with an i7 4700mq are quite big and heavy.

So do any of you have experience using DIVA with UV CPU's? How many instance can you run? I know I will have to freeze and run down on plug in count but I am very worried not even one or two are possible. Should I totally forget about this cpu's? and then, Is much difference with an i5 4200m?

By the way I also use Live which is a little more CPU hungry than other hosts.

I'm running Live 9 on my laptop which has a i5-2410M in it. I can run an instance of Diva and Aether-2C along with some Zebras just fine. A second Diva is too much though. I hope that info helps! (I have no idea what a UV is)

I'm using cubase 7.5 on Mac, which is known to have worse performance than win, running the base i5 MacBook and I have quite a few Diva's running without freezing em. I do get spikes now and then but once I get it, it usually doesn't come back. Diva is being used for pretty much everything except drums so it's running the whole track

I've run Diva on my MBP with the following specs

Processor 2.4 GHz Intel Core i7 & Memory 4 GB 1333 MHz DDR3 and it runs fairly well! I've been able to get 4-5 instances easily running in Draft quality. If it helps, i barely notice that big of a difference when you change to divine.. i mean it does get a bit cleaner in the top end but it's by no means less authentic on draft.

Just demo it.

I've been trying out Diva with a Surface Pro 2 (which has an i5 4200U, 8GB ram) in Ableton Live 9. I can run one or two Diva instances in Divine mode (20-50% CPU usage each, depending on patch and polyphony), or 3-4 instances in Great mode depending on patch. Also no problem running Diva and Pianoteq simultaneously (which sounds amazing). This is all with latency set at 64 samples on an RME USB interface for live performance, btw.

Multiprocessing works great with the 4200U, and is necessary for running Diva. I'm sure you could run many more instances of Diva in Draft or Fast mode, then offline render at highest quality.

I don't see the real need to run Diva in Divine mode unless you are doing sound design. If your just using premade presets for actual production then it would be probably more ideal to just run in Draft mode. I actually really respect U-he for making the draft mode still sound very good because it does'nt mess with you when mixing.

So one thing you could do is work on your sound design and tweak your patches in divine so you get an idea how the final thing will sound. Then once your happy switch to draft so you can still run Diva in realtime and then render offline at divine.

Another thing you could do is bypass the effects on DIVA or whatever and just freeze the parts you really like at 8x oversampling or in Divine mode and then apply post processing afterwards such as delays and reverbs. This way when you mix as you go you will be working with a much more ideal signal from your synthesizer of choice. I suppose if you truly wanted, you could use the built-in effects but I don't have a lot of experience in working with frozen tracks that have the delay and effects baked into them. I usually like to run all my effects in real time, but maybe it's more feasible to do it the way i just mentioned.

maybe stupid question, but is it possible to run math on GPU and not CPU?

AFAIK not without huge latencies.
And are there notebooks that have stronger GPUs than CPUs? :)

Could dsp be done on GPU? I understood that it would be too big on latency.

I think GPU's implementations are not designed for real time processing.
