"never cut off your nose to spite your face"...

:tu:

p.s. i ordered my copy from sweetwater... actually my rep called me about ST 3!!!
Glad you got a good deal. As always and as offered in the past, you are free to contact me directly (or others directly if you wish) about whatever has caused you to lose respect for IK's reps and IK. I'm still willing to discuss issues with you one-on-one, the offer stands.

Just FYI, my agreement with neverenoughfunk's post was only with the marketing side of things, not with the actual reps like Peter. Quite the contrary, I think the reps are doing great work considering the difficult circumstances.

Also FYI, I made my purchase through my Sweetwater rep. He actually told me that it's easier for him to just make the sale with the 10% discount (one transaction) rather than make you buy a coupon and then redeem it. So if you're buying off the site directly, it might make sense to just call the Sweetwater 800 number and talk to a rep.

@teacue - I'm working on this directly with my sales guy as we have relayed the information to them to make the changes already. Sorry that there is this confusion for you.

We charge VAT as required so if you were required to pay it through us, I would you should be required to pay it through other dealers though I'm not a lawyer nor do I work at Sweetwater. I believe I stated that 3rd party dealers would not be able to beat the preorder pricing in context (and quoting, I believe) discussion about other dealers not Sweetwater. [edited to clarify some points]
...except i believe that's not the case. when buying downloads, if you're buying from online retailers *and* buying a download product (i.e. one you're not required to ship), it is OK to pay no VAT even if you're buying from within EU. i.e. it's completely legal to not pay VAT for downloads if your retailer is outside the EU (which is why places like JRRShop are godsend to us europeans...). [don't quote me on that though, i'm not a lawyer either]

technically, sweetwater didn't "beat" the preorder deal - they still sell SampleTank for $99, which is what you get at IK too. it just so happens that they have a download version (which means whoever is buying from EU gets an additional "discount" of not having to pay VAT), and they just ran a 1-day promotion (unrelated to ST3), which can get you $100 worth of *anything* for $91.

with that said, Peter said that preorder will not be available through 3rd-party retailers, but if Sweetwater isn't a 3rd-party retailer i don't know what is.

yep Burillo i'm just to tired to explain something everybody knows anyway. so thank you for that and OTOT the $99 is for europeans €79,99 which is something around $108 (without tax!!). so where is the better deal?

IKM is required to charge me tax on physical products, Sweetwater is not. Glad there was a dealer I could use for the physical product as I've had much better success in installing samples from disk than I've had via download.
(Bought the 90 dollar certificate and paid the leftover 99 cent on purchase, so it cost me 9 cents more. Which I find easier than having an 11 cent credit left over from getting a 91 dollar certificate).
I also find it interesting that IKM's biggest supporters are also its most beleaguered. (Me included). :)

My price for upgrade (boxed) is $99.99 - $9.00 store credit = $90.99

So given the prospect that the 'last of July' is actually the very last day of July...
Countdown of 48 days? :hihi:

But yeah, "bought the ticket".

I talked to him and they did update their site and the description states that Miroslav Full is certainly eligible so you can go ahead with the $99.99 upgrade and you will be fine. If you do run into any issues, though, of course you can contact me and we'll work through it.

Actually, retailers outside the EU has been required to charge VAT on downloadable products to non-business customers since July 2003:

Companies in the United States will be required to collect value-added taxes on software, music and other online purchases delivered digitally to European residents, under a directive unanimously passed by the European Union.

hm... well then, get it while it lasts :-) although to be honest VAT should be abolished entirely.

you went to sweetwater? if yes... i got mine for 99 cents cheaper... a flat $90...

about "actually" having ST 3 on your harddrive... ST 3 ETA at Sweetwater is Aug 7... that would mean about Aug 11 to 13 to have it on your harddrive... that is if you want the box... that is what my rep told me...

one good thing... Sweetwater does not charge your card until the items are shipped!!!

Peter - What is the real purpose of pre-orders? Don't tell me it's because you want to give us some nice offers. Noting prevents you from doing that upon release.

I have a suspicion that you are in need of money to complete the production of ST3. Can you - once and for all - credibly dispel that suspicion?

Somebody wrote "pay and take the ride" will there be any ride at all - without pre-orders...

UPDATE:
IKM support has resolved this to my satisfaction and honored the upgrade price for me, since I did have an ST2 XL license in my user area. I have no further complaint nor issues with IKM and thus, my original post below is now irrelevant.

Note: The following is my post in the IKM official forums here:

BUYER BEWARE: Sampletank 2 XL licenses purchased at a "discounted bundle price" don't qualify for the upgrade!

I'm very bummed out about not qualifying for the upgrade price though I do have an ST2 XL license. The "discounted" ST2 XL license cost me $100 at the time from Sweetwater, so not qualifying seems unfair, IMHO. What do you all think?

This is the reply I received via email from IKM support:
IKM Support wrote:After a review of your account, the SampleTank 2 XL license you have was obtained through the Composer Trio bundle. Due to this discounted bundle price, its not considered a qualifying version to obtain the Upgrade price.

SampleTank 2 XT is not a qualifying version either.

In this case, the price you see for the Crossgrade is correct.
Excerpt from IKM's ST3 announcement:
(Source: http://www.ikmultimedia.com/news/?item_id=4109)
IKM ST3 Announcement wrote:SampleTank 3 will be available for download in July. From now until its release, it can be purchased at these special pre-order prices*:
• Upgrade $99.99/€79.99
For all SampleTank 2 XL and Miroslav Philharmonik full users (including Total Studio and Total Workstation users)
• Crossgrade $149.99/€119.99
For all IK users of paid software, apps and hardware
My previous post:
rstallard wrote:Hi Peter,

I'm excited about the upcoming ST3 release and tried to preorder. I just submitted a support request and hope to have a reply soon.

In my user area, I have two ST2 licenses: XL and XT, among other IKM products. I used to have three ST2 licenses (2 XLs and 1 XT), but I sold one of the XL licenses with the Total Studio Bundle I used to own.

When I tried to preorder, I only get the crossgrade price option. If I have an ST2 XL license, shouldn't I get the upgrade price option or do I need to have the full Miroslav license too? I do have a Miroslav CE license, among other IKM products.
Peter_IK wrote:rstallard - Support should be able to help, as it sounds like you qualify by what you describe. We have time so I know it will get sorted before preorders are done.
Please share if you qualified or not for an ST3 upgrade price though you purchased ST2 XL at a discount price. Thanks!
