I agree about the effects. MuLab could use some more improvements in some of its effects. Especially for mixing: EQ, compressor and limiter. These are quite essential for a DAW. More visual feedback on the GUI's of these would also be very welcome. But probably a lot of work to implement..
No band limits, aliasing is the noise of freedom!

I don't know if Mulab's own effects are better in terms of potential, but unless they are I will keep using third-party stuff. For the master rack I use Terry West's MHorse P3, it combines all I need, namely what you listed and some more. And it has a very nice, hands-on GUI plus usable presets.Nielzie wrote:I agree about the effects. MuLab could use some more improvements in some of its effects. I've been contemplating just buying Urs fx plugin set to complement MuLab but the cost is more than the cost of Mulab which prompted me to say Hmmm... how could these be improved?

But in the end you could say that about any of the onboard effects in a DAW, so they might as well not put them in because there are plenty of alternatives available elsewhere and often even free.fluffy_little_something wrote:

Better is always subjective of course. However I'd like to have some decent stock (mixing) effects to be able to choose from and get familiar with them. It would upgrade the overall "quality feel" of a DAW to have them. For people demoing it could have a rather big influence on their decission making for purchasing.
To me the EQ, compressor and limiter are rather useless in their current state. Such effects should at least have some visual feedback these days imho. A simple peak limiter on every channel to catch the peaks and protect the ears would be nice too. The current Tube Limiter I can't even simply use for this.
Don't get me wrong I LOVE MuLab.

What I mean by better is really quality-wise. For instance the reverb sounds very good, much better than the Kjaerhus one (actually most standard Kjaerhus effects sound inferior by modern standards). It does use quite some CPU, though, but still, it is very good for the master rack, where CPU usage doesn't really matter when mixing down. MuVerb has the charm of an ant of course because of the user interface, which might as well be of a chorus or anything else for that matter. But beyond that it sounds great.
So, I assume the compressor also has the potential to sound better than the Kjaerhus one, if one knows how to set it right.

First I wanna say thanks for a great update.
The fade In/out on audio files are great
and so are the drum names in the sequence editor
to name a few.
I noticed though that when I load a sample with MuSampla
and then make a subtrack to automate for example the filter cut of
a crash happens when I try to extend (drag) the automation file
backwards.
There is no problem extending it forwards.
I am on windows 7 sp1 64 bit

I don't think MuLab needs more FX features. There are dozens of EQs, limiters, compressors etc in Factory Presets >Effects >Amplifier, and >Filter; and in the Modules>Audio Processors. I compared the MuLab Channel Strip ECS (EQ/Compression/Saturation) A-B with two major plugin demos and MuLab was cleaner and faster. However, I need visual feedback! So I use a free realtime spectrum analyser VST, Voxengo SPAN (OSX/Windows 32/64) that is very customisable. You can include multiple instances of SPAN at different points in your signal chain to see the result of MuLab effects.

Note: the "Disappearing Rack" bug I mentioned earlier also occurs when I Replace with a VST.
However, MuLab compatibility with VSTs is even better with this version! Many thanks!!!

Hello Jo,
I have purchased MuLab UL 5 the last year (23 February) and I am asking if there is the possibility of a future upgrade from MuLab UL 5 to MuLab UL 6 without to pay the whole price again.
Thanks for your prompt reply.
Best Regards.
Marco

Yep, when M6 is launched for the first time then you can start jamming right away with your very first mouse click! (appart from the unavoidable license agreement and audio setup dialogs)pljones wrote:I get four empty sequences loaded, with MuLab in edit mode but kicked off playing.
Indeed VST plugins cannot be "previewed". In the next version the browser auto play controls will make that clear.Selecting "VST Synths" with "Auto Play" turned on doesn't direct MIDI Input to the selected VST Synth.
Will tune. Thanks!Oh... There looks like a duplicate menu on the module front panel:
You have the "I Like Moog" section (Rename through Edit Meta-Parameter Map) twice.

I don't know why the autoscroll preference would not be loaded from your M5 settings, but IF it's not set as you want then just set it as you want via MULAB menu -> Edit Preferences.DHR53 wrote:Everything seems to be working on my Mac. Can't repeat that noise. When changing the pre-post, sound is muted/reset for a moment, but that's unavoidable.fluffy_little_something wrote:There is quite some noise when pulling the pre/post fader selector while something is playing.
Color picker is used to drag-drop colors while creating a front panel. If you want to change the MuSynth colors use MULAB menu -> Edit Colors. The color picker for the synth does not seem to do anything (I was only trying it as I though one might be able to change the baby blue background to something darker so that one can read the white labels better.)
Changed it to "Mixing Desk". Thanks.Isn't it called mixing console instead of mix desk in English?
Basically this is a function for the case a user wants to send a session to another user on a different system. What does mixdown consolidated session mean?
This is how it works:
* User chooses destination folder
* Current session is saved to temp file so it can be reloaded in its original state after this export
* All unused sequences, multisamples, samples, audiofiles are deleted from the session (ram)
* Unused audio files in session's audio folder are deleted
* Used sample files are copied in dest folder/audio
* Used audio files are copied in dest folder/audio
* Session is saved in dest folder (using relative links to those used sample/audio files)
* If the session uses VST plugins then a textfile that lists the used VST plugins is saved into dest folder ("Used VST Plug-Ins.txt")
* Original session is reloaded from temp file

Can you repeat this with other VST plugins?fluffy_little_something wrote:There seems to be a problem with Cakewalk's Studio Instruments. When I open two instances of the string module, there is terrible noise and Mulab finally overloads even without playing anything. Maybe a Cakewalk thing, dunno... Just tried it in M5, same thing, so obviously nothing to do with M6 as such, but either a Cakewalk issue or a general Mulab issue.

Are you replacing the rack or a rack plugin?Michael L wrote:A bug: When I open your 'demo,' Session, then click Replace on the Device in a Rack (either I Like Moog or A Space Journey), and then click Device>Instruments>MuSampla, the Rack disappears!
If you right-click on the rack name itself and choose "Replace" you'll replace the whole rack.
