Hi Max,

you are right, the bass generator must be checked because it was not modified for many (4-5) years. Or maybe an improved version would be even better.

The bug that caused the velocities jumping back, when editing with the Line Tool was fixed today. Thank you for reporting it!
In this example I've defined scales per bar, but I can not change them independently.
Yes, because both scales are defined at the same place, at the root level of the composition (see "as defined in..." in the title). "C Major" is shown again on the master track, because you chose "Eb Major" for the duration of the "Ebadd2", but the scale changes back to "C Major" that was defined earlier. You can override "C Major" if you click with the right mouse button outside the scale name as shown on this image:

The usual way of setting scales in the structure inspector for parts, lines still works, but the new master track shows the scales linearly. You can add/remove scales/tempo/beats per bar properties by clicking on the lower part of the master track with the right mouse button.
I think another feature is needed to make it even more useful: "Insert new scale until the end of line/part/composition".

Best regards,
Attila

Hi Attila,

thanks for clearifying my scales issue, I supposed that I was doing something wrong and that there was a way to do it correctly.

I am running Rapid Composer v2.7b6 beta on Windows 8.1 x64.

The "Start With Empty Master Track" setting when checked
Image

hangs RC ...

or

crashes RC ...

It crashes on the next startup if the setting "Restore the Environment When Composition Loaded" is checked and RC had exited with a saved composition in memory, otherwise it hangs on the next startup.

"The "Start With Empty Master Track" setting when checked...hangs RC ...or crashes RC ..." -
way to go, tonedef71! In fact, I noticed this mucky bug long before (may be even more than month ago), but somehow later I forgot to mention it here (as far as I remember, I just deleted rcdata file and after that RC finally started OK; and then, scared to death, I simply decided not to switch on that dreadful checkbox again ;))
So, it looks like this story still goes on...But, please, don't ask me (and others) to reproduce it "for educational purposes" once more :) !
Cheers,
T.

I am sorry guys, this is already fixed. A new update (beta) will be uploaded later this week with this fix, and the preview of the new chord suggestions.
This 'feature' caused several problems, actually there should always be a valid scale and harmony at any time. Imagine when you insert a new phrase, but nothing will be displayed. So in the update when no valid scale or chord found, a default value will be used (C major scale, C major chord).

Thanks everyone for making me aware of this ugly bug!!!

Hello Attila and everyone !

I'm back to the composition activity after three weeks to simply play.

I just notice a weird behavior in the 2.7b6 version of RapidComposer: each time I save my composition in progress of development, RapidComposer freezes (after having correctly saved), and I must use the Windows Task Manager to kill the task.

I have not tried in 64-bit edition, only in 32-bit edition.

Anyone has noticed the same issue with the 2.7b6 version? (I think it is the current one)

Happily the saving procedure works. It is after the saving, when RapicComposer should give the control back to the user that it doesn't and stays in an eternal locked state, not responding anymore to Windows.

A little bug not very annoying, but I relate it:

In the tab "Settings", sub-tab "Directories", the new directory set after a change is validate only if we use the button "Browse", not if we use a copy-paste from a folder view in a Windows Explorer.

Therefore:
  • Either forbid the copy-paste in this field
  • Either accept the copy-paste as it is currently but with a real validation (I think that it would be the best solution).

I get many, many crashes in the "Note editor", when putting notes and when moving notes, vertically as well as horizontally.

Current version newly installed today: 2.7b6 32-bit.

I have tried also with a new composition begun from scratch. The use of the chord editor don't have any issue, but as soon as I begin to use the Note Editor" I get crashes quite random and at a quite high frequency (about 5 to 10 minutes, it varies, and I meet a crash when putting or moving a note).

And it leads the composition to become unstable. I don't get it back when reopening, and when I try to reopen the composition (if by chance I have had time enough to sate a state before the crash) it doesn't come back to its saved state.

Very strange...

For me it's not very important for the moment as my new compo is very simple (and I'm at its beginning) but I relate the incident because it can be very annoying for someone else...

EDIT one hour later: another weird crash. Simply by wanting to close the little green "File Import/Export" dialog box.
RE-EDIT: After having uninstalling once more, then now installing the last public release 2.64 I get the same crash at the dialog box after having tried to retrieve the composition (that it can't recover at all) so I think that it's because after so many crashes, the file containing the song (or something in its history files) is now totally bugged... and the application (even the public release 2.64) turns nasty and can't get back to stable enough to give back the control to me.

It seems that the problem is much more serious than I thought.

Situation:
  • Version now installed : 2.64 public release.
  • Folder "c:\Users\xxx\AppData\Roaming\RapidComposer\" brand new (totally recreated from scratch at the new installation, the previous one being zipped to keep an historic trace then totally deleted before the new installation). So it's like I was a totally new user.
Test made:
  1. Opened RapidComposer 2.64 public release (32-bit edition).
  2. Then absolutely any operation done.
  3. Immediately after having opened this brand new RapidComposer, I do...
    a "Save composition as"!
  4. It saves with the named "Untitled.rcCOMP" (that's normal, and I don't change anything for this test).
  5. And immediately after that, I click the red cross to close the dialog editor, and hup... Crash!
That's a good clue for you, Attila, because whilst the problem seems much more annoying than I thought (impacting everybody) it means also that the problem will be probably much more easy to investigate and to fix.

Courage Attila!
We trust you!

Thank you, BlackWinny!
This is quite a serious bug that I could reproduce with v2.64 and the latest version. It won't be easy to catch because it never hangs/crashes in the debug version. I'll do my best to fix it ASAP.

Merci beaucoup, mon ami! :)

Good news: this nasty bug reported by BlackWinny was eliminated.

I'll build the latest beta version later this week...

[/img]For some reason almost all of my chords and scales are missing after this update. I can only choose between major and minor scales and chords. I'm running OSX 10.8.5 Rapid composer version 2.64.

Hi reaperre,
this happens rarely when the chords library file could not be loaded or damaged.
Please check the existence and size of ~/Documents/RapidComposerV2/DB/Chords.rcCHRD (it should be at least 13 KB).
If the file is smaller, please delete it, and next time you run RC it will be recreated. This applies to all files under ~/Documents/RapidComposerV2.

Hi

I tried to look on this thread for someone with a similar problem than me and, sadly, no-one seems to have it.

Every time I try Open Composition to open a previously saved work RC crashes, and it's a real bummer. When I open my RCCOMP file from my desktop it just opens a brand new RC window, if I use the Open Composition from the File import/export menu it does nothing and when I pick around the program or try to close it down it freezes and then crashes.

I was using RC with a very cheap and low spec laptop for convenience, due to partial paralysis. When I saved my first work with RC everything was smooth but when I tried to open my file the next day... nothing. So from then on I just exported to midi everything I made.

So recently someone shared with me his composition and I tried to open it without success, so I installed RC in my "good and powerful" PC, just to learn the problem persists but with the addition that now I cannot save either without the program crashing.

Congrats on this ground-breaking program and for delivering a wonderful tool for people like me, who can no longer play an instrument but thanks to this can still satisfy that little bug that needs to make music.

I'm using build 2.64 by the way
