I'm buying some hardware. I've read hardware midi stuff doesn't work well with Tracktion cause it lacks sync etc. What are the details to this? If my track has no timing/bpm changes is it usable? Or the hardware will always go out of sync with the sequencer under all conditions?

Is there any way to add midi sync with any vsti or rewire product? Such as energyxt, or flstudio in vsti form? Any decent way whatsoever to use hardware with Tracktion?

if you need midi sync (for hardware arpeggiators or LFOs for example) then as far as I know you are out of luck. I just make do with sync, but it is a feature that would be useful in T2.

But if I don't require synced arps or lfos, hardware will stay in time with my vsti's etc?

I'm not quite sure what you are asking, so I'm going to cover the basics - please don't be offended if I seem to be telling you the sky is blue:

For MIDI hardware Tracktion is only capable of transmitting Note On/Off messages, CC messages, PB data, program changes, and maybe sysex (don't know for sure).

Bugs not withstanding, your MIDI notes and CC data etc will all happen in sync with your song. They are transmitted to your synth in realtime and as such there is little room for timing errors.

MIDI sync is different. Rather than actual notes, it is like a metronome that is sent along with the standard MIDI data. What MIDI sync does is to allow MIDI hardware to know the current bpm of the song. In this way hardware delays can auto set delay times, lfos can auto time themselves to the beat etc. Typically all of these things are user controllable, so even with out MIDI sync, you can still set suitable delay times, and LFO rates on your hardware, it os just a little more work.

Thanks valley. Note that I'm buying my first hardware in many, many years so I'm a bit of a newb concerning it.

I was under the impression that Tracktion caused hardware midi devices to fall out of sync with the sequencer because it lacked midi sync. But if all that is for is synced lfos etc then I'm fine with that.

Actually, I have had far less timing issues with Tracktion then I had with Cubase. In cubase I hade issues with all MIDI, in that the where slipping out of timing. Not so in Tracktion. What I would like in Tracktion though is a MIDI filter to filter out double notes etc. Some hardware synths with keyboards have a nasty tendancy to enter doubles of every note.
