I have a g4 1ghz 15 inch powerbook running with an Echo Layla 24. I am unable to get this setup to stop glitching. During playback and while recording I get terrible glitches... it's nearly impossible to work with and I'm considering either leaving Tracktion or trashing the Layla. Could someone post the settings they use (latency, cache, I dunno)... give me something to try to make this setup work! Please!

how many tracks are you recording at one time

I have been record between 1 and 3 tracks, usually just 1. It looks like it's Echo's drivers from all I've seen. Tracktion even works fine with my little imic and with the built in audio. The Layla works fine with Cubase, and Jules guessed this was because the drivers were developed to work with Cubase but weren't really developed solidly.

"It just sounds like there's some subtle priority problem between the audio driver and the app. And if even itunes glitches with the layla, then that's a dead giveaway that it's their end that's at fault - (I don't know of any similar problems with tracktion and other cards). My guess is that the layla programmers would have just tested with cubase, and that'd explain why it works..

Sorry, can't think of anything I could do from the host side of things that would help work out what's going on."

Any good ideas for a replacement card? : (
Recording on the computer is an expensive venture! Has anyone seen those portable marantz hand held recorders? They seem like a swiss army knife of recording... even have a little limiter in there. Starting to look good!

Hmm well I run tracktion on an old Echo Mia (the non-midi ones) and i'm having no problems... So I'm hoping its not your layla... I hope that gives you more hope?

I've been using a Layla, but I've been having lots and lots of problems with this setup and Tracktion. The card isn't broken, it just seems like the drivers don't work well with my powerbook. So, I'm in the market for a new card to work with the powerbook and Tracktion. I want to remain in the same ballpark of quality that I'ver had with the Layla, but I could do with fewer ins and outs. I was thinking about getting an Indigo, but from my experiences with Layla, I think I'll wait on that!

indigo IO works perfectly, i own that too ;) maybe its the osx or powerbook's fault? what speed is it?

it's a new powerbook 1ghz with 512 of ram, the 15 inch. Works perfectly besides this trouble with the Layla.

I personally wouldnt jump to conclusion that this is unsolvable... Try other things

Well I am on a PC and have an old Gina card but it always worked fine.
I heard those noises you are talking about.
But I always managed to get rid of them.
Since I started to use their "alternative driver"
the one called "Pure wave" all these problems went away. I don't know if this is available for your card
or operating system but it's worth looking into.
