Since this is my one and only modern online computer, on which I also have to run a mail client and a browser in the background, I was wondering if it makes more sense to use 5 of my 6 cores and set the limit to 100% (which I read somewhere, maybe even in the Mulab docs) or to use all 6 cores and set the limit to, say, 85 or 90%. I mean, I can't decide in which core those other applications run. Or am I missing something?

If you stop your music when doing other compu work, and you don't suffer from a slow UI then keep the num cores on max. If you feel that the UI gets too slow to be comfortable, then set the num cores to max - 1. Cfr http://www.mutools.com/info/docs/mulab/audio-setup.html
