So the demand on Wave Seq'ing vst is that low ?

The biggest difference of wave sequencing (which indeed was first used in the Wavestation around 24 years ago) and wavetable scannying synthesis is ineed that with wave sequencing you could also use bigger samples while in wavetables there are only single cyles.
In the Wavestation a Wave sequence could contain more than 230 steps (samples + single cycle waveforms) and you could adjust tuning (semitones + fine), volume and crossfading on/off for each step. The start- and end-point could be adjusted so if for another patch you want to use a different range you could do that.
If you use the same sound for each step in combination with the tuning parameter you could also use this as a "normal" step sequencer with a big amount of steps.
I own a real Wavestation since 2004 and also the plugin and so far nothing really seems to sound the same for me. Just having the ability to scan trough samples does not mae another snth sound the same.
In synthmaster Wave sequencing could be done using a step modulator but not with the wavetable oscillator.
In DUNE and DUNE 2 the step sequencer could be used to play a series of certain waveforms in a wavetable which ponts to another difference of wave sequencing. In a wavetable synth you usually scan trough a pre-defined wavetable using an envelope or a LFO and the result is a bit limited as you have less control about which waveforms of the wavetable are played.
With wave sequencing you got full control about the waveforms that are played and you could use all samples and waveforms that are available (at least with the Wavestation).
Last but not least the Wavestation also includes vector synthesis and a wave sequence is just one of the 4 oscillators for the vector sequence which means you could also combine 4 wave sequences this way to add even more movement (or switch betweewn certain combinations in real time). Of course you could switch to the 1 oscillator mode if you don't need multiple oscillators and/or vector synthesis.

Fascinatingly CM has a blast from the past dedicated to the Wavestation this month, could they have been inspired by this thread?
Anyway, they also list Green Oak Crystal as a contender as they claim that "one of its best features is its ability to string sampled waveforms into wavesequence under the control of its flexible enevelopes"

Don't forget Wusikstation is a dedicated wavesequencer (Windows only sadly)
And there was X-Phrase but that is defunct

Yes, Wusik has been mentioned a couple of times upstream in this threadaMUSEd wrote:Don't forget Wusikstation is a dedicated wavesequencer (Windows only sadly)

Wusik 4000 also have Wave Sequencers. (sorry, small shameless promo)

you might be able to do something similar using live clips, btw - you can assemble samples together into a clip (with individual tuning + volume), and then midi-map it to notes to play it chromatically. haven't actually tried it, but think the workflow would be a lot easier....Ingonator wrote: In the Wavestation a Wave sequence could contain more than 230 steps (samples + single cycle waveforms) and you could adjust tuning (semitones + fine), volume and crossfading on/off for each step. It sounds like the plugin to choose if you want to have a Wavestation-like instrument would be Korg's Wavestation program from the Legacy Collection!Ingonator wrote:The biggest difference of wave sequencing (which indeed was first used in the Wavestation around 24 years ago) and wavetable scannying synthesis is ineed that with wave sequencing you could also use bigger samples while in wavetables there are only single cyles.
LinPlug's CRX4 has multiple oscillator types, including ones that allow import of long samples and modulating start and loop points. If you would want to do something like vector synthesis you would have to use the mod matrix, though (and the two dedicated generator volume envelopes).
