Can't get a URL to feed into iGetter so it seems one will not be able to use a dl manager

Bummer!

Strange, igetter is working fine here, downloaded the first zip no problem.

Boy do I get mad though, hearing the speeds you guys get in the civilised world….this will take the best part of 4 or 5 days here in good old first world Oz where (for me) nothing faster than ADSL1 is available. :x
How are you getting the URL jacqueslacouth?

If I right click on the link I don't even get iGetter to show as an option or a "copy URL" to link to.

I opened iGetter stand alone and it doesn't see the sound files on the user page. It sees the ST3 zip ok but not the ones in the drop down box.

Here's a tip:

After the importing process is done and once it starts the scan to build the database, hit cancel.

Do that for all of the imports you do, and then for the last one, let it rebuild the database.

Download seems to be going fine for me, but I want to sound off about something so here goes...(not at IK but just at Life With Computers and Software in general)

Not having a lot to spend on music software I was wondering whether to upgrade, as I can use ST2 just fine, as I'm still running Logic 8. Yes, 8. But I know I'll get Logic X eventually, so will need ST3 then. So the cheapest way is to get it was to preorder now, though I probably don't really need the new sounds so much.

So after the app installed I fire up Logic ... and no ST3 to be seen. I do some thinking and realise Logic 8 is probably only a 32 bit app, and sure enough I'm right. So no ST3 for me till I get Logic X, which I was in no hurry to do as 8 is still working pretty well on my iMac (though I had to some trickery to fool the system as 8 is officially to old to run).

And when I do get X, it won't run on my laptop coz it's too old... so I won't have parity between my desktop and laptop logic versions... GAH! First world problems! Also, I thought I'd give ST3 a spin in garageband, but my version of that (11) is also 32 bit, even though its only a few years old. Oh well, at least I'll be able to give it a spin in standalone mode when the sounds finish downloading...

Why has nobody commented on the sound yet? Is it noticeably better than version 2? how does it compare to kontakt? How does it sound?!?!

Stand alone works fine here. Windows 7 PC.

I'm sure manufacturers wish I would stop using old midi files to compare their instruments but hey...

If you look through my tracks you will see that same song used to compare many pianos.
I like the sound of these pianos. Nothing revolutionary, Yamaha/Steinway but nice.

Thought the 12 string guitar sounded nice also the drums.

Basic plug into a midi and save the song, but it gives you an idea.

I've just installed the instruments part 1 and 2, but none of the "ST2 XL" presets loads. I always get error messages. I've tried the standalone and VST3 versions (on Win 7).

The ST 2 XL samples are in the 8th download so no problem so far for you.

It's pretty much more of the same. It's SampleTank XL in a new shell. Decent bread and butter sounds for those who don't have any but not a huge leap ahead for previous owners soundwise, the software itself is a nice upgrade though. I bought it mainly so I could use my old libraries in a 64bit shell and for that I'm grateful but soundwise it doesn't add anything I didn't already have in the previous Sampletank libraries or other plugs.

EDIT: ok after some further playing around with it, yes, the sounds ARE a better quality but the library is pretty vanilla, I find the synth presets to be quite bland compared to the likes of Omnisphere, Trilian, Halion 5 and the synths included in Komplete. But of course Sampletank is not a synth it's a rompler but I even found the synth presets included with Kontakt to be more interesting. Like I said it's a bread and butter plugin, what it does it does better than version 2.5 but not by a huge amount.

Really you can't tell a diff between ST2 and ST3 pianos?

EP's and Basses sound especially good to my ears. The Pop Brass is a nice addition.

I need more time with the guitars to make a full assessment but there are certainly a large number of tones.

The Voices category is...well..."special" (as we say in the Southern US).
