Just first impressions here as I am still downloading the last two zip files.

I'm sorry to say it but I'm really not that impressed, especially considering the time in development. I have read a few comments on the obvious high quality of the effects which for me, I'm not buying in to. To my ears, the sounds are often muddied on one side or harsh and grating on the other, most obviously with the distortions. There are some nice sounds in there though, don't get me wrong, this is not an all in bagging attempt.

The much vaunted 4000 instruments is a bit of a joke considering how incredibly the same so many sounds are (not hidden or anything, the patch names indicate this sameness) with just a small tweak here or a bit of distortion there etc.
I didn't quote everything you wrote, so as not to take up too much space, but I am so glad I didn't buy this. I thought that many of the instruments might just be variations on a preset, using effects (nothing wrong with that, there are plenty of excellent ones in ST2, etc.) but I think the fact that there aren't loads of people on this thread saying how wonderful ST3 is, now that they've finally got it, speaks volumes. And the number of problems people are having, even with the installation process (having to run eight separate extractors? Is that correct?) also puts me off, and I am breathing a sigh of relief that I didn't risk my money on it.

All I can say is in my opinion for the upgrade price Sampletank 3 was well worth the wait........

I think there is some great content in the package that can be used to make some very useful instruments and multis............

The Pipe Organs alone were worth the price and the ability to run it in 64 bit and the newly added effects are just icing on the cake.

I would be very hard pressed to find more bang for my $99..........

I wouldn't haved guessed that the factory lib is overwhelming.

I have Kontakt and the factory lib of it is mediocre, I use maybe 10% of it once in a while. For an ambitious production I use 3rd party instruments, paying 100$ or more for a single piano or guitar. How should 4000 instruments for 100$ be able to compete with these? That said, I expect the ST factory lib to be about the same quality as the Kontakt factory lib, in other words, mediocre.

It's all about really high quality 3rd party extensions I think.

The 'human' voices are probably the weakest I've ever heard. Many don't even sound human but, rather, some sort of synthesized crumbhorn or something.

Must be the IKM staff then...

The voices in ST2 are actually better.

During the 2 hours that ST3 was actually working on my PC (day two of waiting for response to my help ticket) I had the same disappointed thought. The voices are not very good. Still, I'm reserving judgement until I can actually hear and play them all.

Once I've gone through everything, I will delete all that is useless to me from the directory. If I ever want them back, I can always re-install them from backup. Space on my second HDD is more important to me than stuff I will never use.

Given that I got 4/5 IKM VI's dirt cheap, I won't complain. It comes to around €160- for those instruments and ST3. I still like and use a lot of stuff from Miroslav, Sampletron and Sonik Synth 2, and can now use them within LPX. So, if there is a dearth of enthusiasm for the new stuff, there is probably good reason.

10 years in the making? Did anyone check out what other companies have done in the last 10 years, from menu browsing, to things like 'true-legato' intervals? Creating a favourites list, or a rating scheme? Round robin on every instrument? Velocity curves? I wanted to love it, but it just doesn't do it for me.

For me sampletank is like a big library that has just about every book I could need.

It's just the authors are not that great.

Thanks for the suggestions as we will definitely be looking for what expansions are sought after going forward.

Import is also covered in the manual, the screenshots were pre-release and did go through each step and you can see reports of Miroslav and others going smoothly (sorry of those that had issues with AV software and import interfering with each other, that will be noted to the team). A user (who also was indeed able to import Miroslav and other libraries smoothly) created a video for this easy process and it can be found here:

So there's one we don't have to do...

Not for me. And support wasn't helpful either...
Ticket number? You can PM if you'd like too, either way.
