STANK FREE is for ME!

(and my 50GB+ of Miro+, STXL, Sonic, Moog, Tron and 15 X-Tanks)

Please don't cripple it to less than capable of running these.

Thanks!
We've stated that the demo version will not import. It is a demo of SampleTank 3 so it will come with a small yet representative library and will not import.

Even Goliath, which is a little long I the tooth., at40 gigs is on another level quality wise. Not as many sounds but I for one food could do without 8 (slight) variations of the same sound. I would much rather have 400 very high quality sounds than 4000 or 40000 mediocre ones. If I need to add distortion I can do it on my own. But perhaps I'm speaking as someone who already has too many of these( and every) sounds as it is. For someone who needs a wide selection of sounds in one package the value is defiantly there at its price point. And the interface is simple yet effective. All in all a decent package just not the leap forward I was hoping for.

It is 2 CPUs, each with 8 physical cores, totaling 16 physical cores which show as 32 logical cores.
In dealing with Windows 7/8, the default is to use all logical cores, but they can be disabled under msconfig in advanced options.

Intel Xeon. But the price has increased about 50% since I bought them and if you're in that market, I would suggest the newer ones available now.
my i7 machine has 4 physical cores and 4 logical cores... does that make my i7 machine an 8 core machine? i ask because i never heard it referred to as 8 core machine...

:tu:
Yes, 4 physical cores, each with hyper threading. As far as the OS and software is concerned, it looks like 8 physical cores. Hyperthreading is a CPU trick of sorts that allows certain types of parallelizable operations to run in parallel on a single physical core. Technically, a hyper threaded single physical core is not the same as two physical cores, but for all practical purposes it's very similar, 4 physical cores + hyper thread is much cheaper than 8 physical cores, and the diff between physical and virtual cores is totally transparent to OS and software. When people talk of hyper threaded i7's (there's an early mobile i7 that's not hyper threaded), it's considered an 8 core processor, with the practical limitations of hyper threading being more of an academic distinction.
You need to limit that rez, bro.

Cool as I just read an article suggesting to turn off hyper-threading for better DAW usage? I may try that next and see if that helps my 'particular anomaly' with these apps.

iLok/PACE.
I just removed UVI off my system and gave the whole account to my nephew. And it didn't even require the dongle that Goliath does...

is there a way to stop ST3 rescanning the whole library after a new import ?

Part2 loading issuses

Thanks for any help
Which Multi / Combi is it?
Does it load OK in SampleMoog (plug-in or standalone)?
Which instruments does it contain?
Are they in the SampleMoog library and the Imported library?
There is no problem in SampleMoog vst 32 bit. I just tried it in Cubase 7.5.2 64 bit.
The error message in ST3 I get when loading e.g. Bass-> Another One, no problem with As Bass (1. and 2. Bass preset)
Another One is listed in the Imported ST3 Presets List in Windows file explorer and ST3 Multi.
OK, "Another One" (the Multi / Combi, is listed but are its 3 individual instruments listed in the ST3 browser?

It could be worth checking how many SampleMoog instruments there are in the ST3 sub-folder and how many instruments and presets there are in the SampleMoog library.

All fair criticisms. Honestly, the lack of modern features, given the long wait and anticipation, is confusing :? No round robin on many instruments, low sample (file) sizes--some as small as a few megabytes, and the inability to rank or mark favorites is seriously weird. Instead of innovating, and taking the program to the next level, they released something that is behind the curve of what was being developed years ago

Well, to be fair, it's nice to have 64-bit and an updated GUI

blueman wrote:I had system-crashing errors importing these libraries:

Studiophonik (Sonic Reality)
SampleTank Rare Vintage Collection vol. 1 and 2 (Sonic Reality)
Up-tempo Electronica
Sonik Synth 2 (some parts)
Regarding my recent experience with the SampleTank 2 import process:

The Sonik Synth 2 instruments did import over fine for me without a hitch.
[EDIT: Now that I have the combis available, two of the Sonik Synth 2 combis failed to convert:
Sonik Synth 2/Presets/SS2 Pads/Wheel In Motion.ikmp
Sonik Synth 2/Presets/SS2 Special FX/Modulator Radio MW.ikmp
]

However, of my 61+ GB of SampleTank 2 content, I only had problems importing the following five instruments (they all caused ST3 to crash with Windows 8.1 reporting that the program "stopped working"):

Studiophonik/
  • Big Room Kit/LdwgKeystn Hats Dir_Rm.sti
  • Big Room Kit/LdwgKeystn Snares Dir_Rm.sti
  • Prl Kt Sn Toms Mix.sti
  • Roger Snares Mix.sti
Up Tempo Electronica/
  • 01 Menu Map Grooves UTE/Yeah.sti
I renamed the above .STI files to something else (.STI.0) and then re-ran the import again on Studiophonik and Up Tempo Electronica (After first moving them to another folder with the proper hierarchy); the problematic STIs were bypassed so that the import could complete.

So how do I get these five holdouts imported? Can IK Multimedia convert them for me if I e-mail them a link to the files and specify the folder name I want them to be imported to? I noticed that presets fail to load if I move them to a folder other than where originally imported to -- refreshing the database seems to make no difference.
Where did all my ST2 combis go? The only combis that got converted for me were some I have called "X2 Bonus/Instruments". Should I not have seen some imported from Sonic Synth 2 and others such as SampleMoog, Miroslav, and SampleTron?
[EDIT: The .IKMP combi files were not stored along with the various ST2 instruments; performing a clean install of Windows 8 many months ago must have wiped them out. I re-installed all of the combis using the individual installer programs. All of them converted except two from Sonik Synth 2.]

By the way, the "Legacy instrument not available" messages do appear for me as well when I try loading various presets -- unfortunately, there are just too many to make a note of which ones are complaining.

I've seen this 3 or 4 times now; I expect we will run into again. What's frustrating: it fails to show WHAT instrument is "not available," or how to repair the mutli/combi (e.g. browsing to find the missing instrument).

BBFG# I'll have support take a look at your ticket and if there is anything that could relate here to your issue I'll have them let you know.
Just so you know, that ticket was closed out quite awhile ago. There is no open ticket right now as I haven't even received the box version of STank3 and I am hoping this all becomes academic when I install it. It was just to keep you and support techs up to date. :)

I could not agree with you more. IK Multimedia should change this behavior in a ST3 maintenance update to help us troubleshoot the issue with the missing instruments.
