If Diva and NI Massive had a baby...

Hey all

First I want to say how pleased I am with my purchase of Diva . I'm quite new to synths but regardless of that, it sounds wonderful to my ears.

I have also demoed NI Massive also, and although the sound is not to my taste I'm a huge fan of the interface. There is a-lot of visual feedback which I'm finding really helpful. The animated knobs (showing modulation ranges), colour coded interface and envelope editing is great.

I think the love child of both NI massive and Diva would be a great thing. What do you think?

The closest you'll get is the Dark Zebra since it has Divas filters in it.

Other than that I don't think anything new will happen. I think it would be awesome if the U-he team used the Diva filters in Zebra 3 but I somehow don't think that will happen.

Also i should point out that some of the charm of massive lies in its unique scanning wavetables and filters.

If your a synthesizer nut, then owning Diva + Massive is probably your best bet.

I'm not a fan of the envelope editing in Massive.

First, you can only edit one envelope at a time. They are all on separate tabs...
Second, the graphical display is relative which I have never liked. So if you adjust decay or release, it changes the visual appearance of the attack.

That said, the envelopes are very capable.

I do like the visual modulation feedback.

Massive also has no dedicated mod sources for Breath, Modwheel, and Expression Pedal... that one is pretty much a showstopper for me...

I demoed normal zebra 2. but didnt take to it. unfortuntely theres no demo for dark zebra, and it would be to much to spend just on a hunch that id like it (although i probally would!)

I think you need to use the Zebra 2 demo some more. Zebra does pretty much everything Massive does, minus a few of it's special effects, but plus a ton of different ones. It's the closest thing to Massive and Diva's lovechild as you're gonna get I think.

thanks erkenfresh, i will at some point give zebra another go.

i guess what Im saying is that Diva does it where it counts (the way it sounds), but i wish there were a version where it looked less like a hardware unit, and more like a software program. Something with smaller knobs (with colour coded mod indicators). I know alot of people say "just use your ears". But the ability to quickly see what is routed to what, in a colour coded manner I find really cool about Massive.

If you did not take to Zebra, the Dark Zebra will not be different. They are the same synth.

The Diva filters use too much CPU. Diva is a mono signal path and Zebra is full stereo. So the same filter from Diva will use roughly double the cpu in Zebra.

I honestly think that U-he would create a monster if they included the filters from DIva anyways. They already did it with Dark Zebra so how hard would it be to do it Zebra3?

Maybe they don't want to because it might prevent people from buying Diva ?

Well since its modular in nature then that means it is scalable for the user and it would mean you could still use the legacy filters if your computer isnt up to the job.

I don't think many people would be happy with a synth that uses 3, 4 or more times as much cpu as Diva...

Of course you are free to advocate for that idea... I will advocate against it. I prefer to keep Zebra focused on what it is good at... Zebra is not an analog emulation.

But there are macros which you can assign to those CCs. And they are extremely powerful.
